Smoked Shotgun Shells --ARE THEY WORTH IT?

Smoked shotgun shells are super popular right now… so much so that I had to go to 4 different grocery stores to find manicotti noodles. But are the smoked stuffed shotgun shells actually worth making on your smoker? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.

I stuffed my manicotti noodles with a mix of ground beef and ground sausage, shredded pepper jack and sharp cheddar cheeses, and my favorite barbecue seasonings. I also added in a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce and a steak sauce for added flavor. Next, I wrapped each stuffed manicotti noodle in bacon and put them on a sheet tray. Then, I covered them in plastic wrap and let them refrigerate overnight so that the moisture from the ground meats and bacon would help to soften the pasta.

The next day, I smoked the stuffed shotgun shells on my Pit Boss Navigator smoker at about 300 degrees for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Then I basted them with barbecue sauce and let them cook at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes.

And the verdict on the smoked shotgun shells? It’s still out… You’ll have to make them and see if they deserve a spot in your smoker recipes rotation.

One of the many reasons I love your channel is your honesty. Some recipes are winners and some are shotgun shells. 😁 Keep up the great work!

Glad you tried it for us, your reviews and analysis have been and are spot on so there is no doubt for me the shells are an option, just might not be on the top of the list. Just watching the prep time was a handicap, you are right there too. Griddle on Doc.

I was excited to make them, and they do look great and would be a novelty for a party, but after trying many things myself and finding it wasn't worth the time and money put into it, for the reward you expected. Thanks for your honesty and I enjoy your channel very much. Cheers

I made these once when all the hype started, I did say once. Was like eating a chewy cat turd. I'm with you on the pig shots! I use a cajun sausage on the bottom with a cube of jalapeno jack in the middle topped with a cheesy cream cheese filler. They never disappoint.

I 100% agree with your conclusion. Great walkthrough. Your technique is spot-on, too, letting them sit overnight. The recipe tweaks are personal preference -- we all make them, right? First time I tried making them early this summer, my wife asked the question, "all that work for an appetizer?" If I want the same type of appetizer, I'm going with Atomic Buffalo Turds (ABTs) or mini quail eggs. I want bite-sized appetizers I can make while the meat is cooking, not a separate project for an appetizer that's practically a small lunch. Bottom line? Shotgun shells only mean one thing in my house, and my Beretta doesn't take pasta...

I agree. They are fun and people that never had them get all excited over them but I only make them when they are requested.

Great honest video.
I am going to try these on my Rec Teq 700 pellet grill one day.
The Blackstone and a pellet grill make a great combo.

Haven’t tried these yet because smoked manicotti shells just sounded weird to me. Thank you for proving to me they are not worth the time/ effort to make 😂

Charcoal king - Flat top king - smoker king it doesn’t matter to me. I’d watch your videos even if you were cooking on the stove & oven because I like how you think about food.

Keep the content coming, no matter what you cook on!!

Great video as always, good to have some variety too, not much of a smoker compared to the flat top but everything has its place. I haven't even heard about these things, saw a video on pig shots on another channel though and plan to make them this weekend!
