Anti-fragility and children #shorts

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. That old adage roughly sums up the idea of antifragility, a term coined by the statistician and writer Nassim Taleb. The term refers to how systems tend to become stronger after being exposed to stressors, shocks, and mistakes.

The same applies to humans. Although suffering for its own sake isn’t necessarily good, experiencing — and overcoming — stress and difficulty tends to make us stronger people in the long run. We shouldn’t always shy away from that which makes us uncomfortable.

Let’s be honest…some parents have confused this with negligence.

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is only partly true. Plenty of what doesn’t kill you can make you weaker. It’s called trauma.

Our Lakota people survived because of our resiliency....

Yup, not to forget our emotions, our intelligence, our psychological and social connections. I learnt the hard way, but it helps you grow.

I agree. Kids need to get made fun of a bit so that they get a thicker skin. It comes in handy in adulthood during which we often get criticized both personally and professionally. And this is why sports are so important. They teach us to face our flaws and learn how to lose and be ok with them.

I dont even understand why anyone would need to be told this. I feel like everyone shout out that inner knowledge you get from living

Resilience and distress tolerance are the terms we is in education. Anti fragility just feels like it’s not okay to be fragile sometimes. Grit is also a concept we teach.

There is a difference between protecting kids from difficulties and protecting kids from abuse. You can teach kids to face, deal with and overcome difficulties but there is no dealing with abuse you just have to avoid it because there is no benefit for the person receiving it.

In pedagogy class, it is said that the child has to deal with these obstacles. However, the degree of challenge is often high and should not degenerate into children being frustrated.

Best place to bring children - farm or petting zoo. They are around dirt, germs, bacteria, and if you hit an animal, it hits you back.

What doesn't kill you can also make you disabled or give you cripling depression and trauma

Say it louder for the ones in the back! Stop coddling; love without overprotecting and smothering so they learn those the skills to be a responsible normal human being.

SIMPLY PUT, there are only two kinds of wounds: ones that kill you and ones that don't. The ones that let you live, leave scars, great or minor. Old wounds, apparently healed, can gape and bleed under the influence of scurvy or other diseases, and old injuries often twinge, pain, ache and throb in cold and wet weather. You never really get over them, and they don't make you stronger. Where on earth you leapt and ran, you now limp and halt. Where you had two eyes, you now see the world through only one. The instant agony gradually fades, or is eclipsed by something worse, but if you are destined to survive, you tend to be much more careful under circumstances similar to the ones that put you in the way of anguish, agony and loss…..The operation is considered a success if you live long enough to die of something else.

"Spare the rod, spoil the child" has come to mean the opposite of what it originally meant.

Happiness is anti-fragile if and from that point on that you recognise it in that way and so you proactively being anti-fragile finally become happy and you know it for sure even in times you're completely wrecked.
Sometimes your hugging happiness, sometimes you're only holding hands with happiness.
And so happiness is recognising, deciding to and experiencing anti-fragility.
Do it so or you tend to be wrecked for life ;)

I threw my sibling off the window for extra "strength" but he's lying there flat for about an hour.

should I go check on him?

How about durability or ductility? Perfectly unfragile words. Oh and ductile objects can work harden. The key thing is that they need to repair in order to not harden to a point where they then become fragile and break.
