In China we had score in total of 150 and I got around 90ish and was the "worst student" and had to call my parents to school bc of that. Here in college I went straight A and had to teach my fellows. They are amazed. I was like can you imagine I was literally traumatized by math due to how bad I was in score ranking in China and my parents beat me to death because of that??

It’s not that Asians are academically gifted it’s just the stuff we’re taught in our countries’ curriculum is usually much harder than those overseas, so when we study overseas, everything becomes comparatively easy since we’re trained to do harder stuff since we were young

The Asian stereotypes are really true and i have experienced it 1st hand. Like I had always straight A in maths and though never topped my class i was always in top 5 and my parents were like never happy. when I moved to America i was amazed to see parents celebrating average scores. The second stereotype is also true. I had taken maths in my ug and i realized all the freshmen and sophomore courses were taught to us in class 11 and 12.

I was an average student in indonesia and kinda had anxiety when i took my master degree in France. Turns out, the easiest straight As i’ve ever experienced lol.

I remember when I moved to Finland from Russia in 90's, when I saw their math at 6th grade, show it to my dad, he gave his math book from 6th grade form 70's in Russia and said go show it to the teacher. When teacher saw the book, she asked "So this is university math book, right?" XD Her face was funny when I told her that is the 6th grade math XD

The whole math stereotype comes from the fact that they have a more intense education system. They learn things a year earlier than most North American schools so they seem super smart when they get here.

Yes yes yes 😂 I almost dropped out of my high school in Japan because of math classes but then moved to the US, I suddenly became like a math god lol

The reason why it’s harder for American students to be good at math is because schools don’t provide foundational knowledge for it while they’re young. Very difficult to learn calculus in 12th grade when they barely start introducing the concept of derivatives.

There was a Korean guy that would just sleep through maths half the time because he was so much further ahead. Since we had a terrible teacher, we'd just go to him if we had issues.

In Uganda, my teachers told me that I was supposed to be good at math as an Indian but for real I was so terrible... It was embarrassing
