@650 light years away, it's already went supernova. We are just waiting for the light to arrive.

The subtitles literally say "Beetlejuice" 😂

PLEASE, no reason to panic. As an astronomer, I have been expecting this for several decades now. It will be so amazing to see.

*"it's explosion won't affect us"* Phrase around the 7 minute mark of every Sci-fy horror apocalyptic movies.

It might not affect us by itself, but it could throw something near it our way, you can not know, it's impossible to predict a phenomenon of this magnitude.

Just don't say it's name three times... we'll be fine.

Astronomers are saying star Betelgeuse is becoming dimmer. The star is located 642 light years away from Earth, meaning that the dimming that scientists are currently witnessing actually occurred 642 years ago. In the event that Betelgeuse goes supernova today, we would not be aware of it until the year 2666. If the star went supernova 100 years ago, we would see it happen in 542 years. Therefore, it is plausible that the star we are currently observing may no longer exist.

One thing that sticks in my mind is that what if a civilization exists on a close enough planet that they get wiped out and we never know they existed

It may of already gone super nova but the light hasn’t traveled this far yet

It's probably already happened. Speed of light and all that.

It might just be a dense dust cloud caused by a massive surface ejection. Many of the past dimmings have been attributed to that.

It is an electromagnetic plasma universe and solar systems have an electric circuit which is part os a larger galactic circuit. This is evidenced in the deep space images of energetic filamentary structures upon which, particular at the conjunction of filaments, are galactic clusters. This fluctuation of Betelgeuse's luminosity is due to fluctuations in the electric currents flowing throught these filaments..

We've heard the news. We're watching Betelgeuse, non-stop. It's literally just about to go supernova. It's supernova flash will be so bright, you'll even see it in the day time. So, thank you. We'll keep it in mind.
