I've never had savoury or unsweetened mochi. They look like delicious little pillows. This is something I must try.

We make our own maru mochi every year so we never buy kiri mochi. We do eat it sometimes with kinako or as isobeyaki but that is the first time I've seen it with natto! Also yummy variations are butter shoyu mochi (like isobeyaki but with butter) and moffles in a waffle maker (since we don't have a moffuru maker) or we will broil them for our ozoni. Also - Since we make our own mochi sometimes we cut a dried mochi into cubes and fry them in oil for homemade "popped" arare... oishii! Love you both! Thank you for sharing these different ways of preparing kiri mochi!

Oh my gosh this is just what I wanted. I’ve had this type of Mochi (got it on Amazon) but didn’t really know what to do with it. Recently I’ve been cutting a block into thirds and I add it to the instant ramen when I add the noodles (my type ramen has to cook 4 minutes). This turns out great and really adds a nice component to the ramen. Thanks for this video!!! my Mochi service grows.

I put it in a waffle maker and it's gets nice crunchy and toasty. Then put anko on it. I'm going to try your way too!

I'm Hmong and we love mochi too! We use a bread maker to knead the glutinous rice to make big batches. Love it! If you fry it with a little oil then sprinkle it with just a touch of salt after it's crispy and done, it's also really addicting.

I tried the microwaved mochi with chocolate using two squares of a frozen Ritter Sport Milk Chocolate Bar. That was SO WORTH IT! Very Yummy.

Great video. My absolute favorite is to daikonoroshi: bite-size pieces of fresh mochi in a bowl of grated daikon and shoyu. Fresh is best in this case because it is so soft. We used to do this with the last batch at our mochitsuki. At the end, we would drop a big bowlfull of freshly grated daikon into the usu, pour in shoyu then drop in the freshly pounded mochi in dumpling sized pieces. The usu would be a giant sized serving bowl from which everyone could help themselves. This would be our lunch for the mochitsuki crew.

I just end up eating all my mochi grilled! Though now I want some with cheese, because cheese. (There's a restaurant in West Seattle that has grilled mochi with anko on the menu, and it is the BEST.)

Oooh thank you so so much, last week I bouht some of them and now I have sooo many options to enjoy them *^* I tried to grill them in the oven right unter the grill, it worked pretty well on the grilling part, but they didn't puff up like yours in the pan so I will try this today ^^
