Radial Nerve Glides or Nerve Flossing - Ask Doctor Jo

Some people might consider some of these nerve stretches, but as long as you keep it in a comfortable level, you should see the benefits.

Radial nerve gliding or nerve flossing is when you are moving the median nerve at each end together. This helps break up scar tissue or adhesions that might be causing pain. It can also help if you have a nerve compressed somewhere. Make sure not to force any of the movements, and try to use proper technique.

The last movement is more of a stretch on the radial nerve since you are pulling away at both sides. So if you feel any pain, you might not be ready for it yet.

I am not sure what I have. The last exercise doesn’t create much tension compared to the previous exercises.

Thank you, Dr. Jo. I've tried these exercises and they are relieving the stiffness and soreness effectively. Will the nerve return to normal as long as I keep doing these exercises on a regular basis?

I haven't been able to put weight on my right hand properly for ~13 years and I only just found out that it's a radial nerve issue. I'm hoping these exercises will help... I've been getting back into yoga lately and so many basic poses are really hard because of this issue. Thanks for the video :)

Hello Dr. Jo.

Thanks for the video. Even though I don't have any pain and don't need to do these glides I find your videos interesting.

Pet your pack for me. Most dogs seem to want all the lovin they can get. I have one that doesn't want it very often but she does want it once in awhile. I always enjoy seeing your dogs in the videos.

FIVE GOLD I am an AVID FANATITCAL tennis player with strange arm pain that didn't feel like muscle or tendon and had to stop playing for nearly a year, three years ago, went to national team doctor that traveled with his team to Rio Olympics. He couldn't help me, gave me wrong diagnosis. I figured out on my own that I had an ulnar nerve issue, that flossing relieved within a few days. 3 years later arm pain returned, the ulnar nerve flossing moves weren't helping. Just tried these radial nerve moves and BINGO!!!! Trying these moves and instantly CLEARLY "feel it". Will continue on, but pretty sure I am on the right path now!

I’ve been dealing with a radial nerve injury due to using crutches over the last 4-5 days due to Achilles tendinitis. I also have a L5 herniated disk. Pain, pain and more pain. My question...what position should I be resting my arm in while sitting and laying down? Thank you!
