Lishi tools KW1 and KW5 comparison for use.

If you are using Lishi Tools, this video is an advisory on purchasing the appropriate tools for work. If you are working on a KW1 keyway you can only use the KW1 Lishi tool, KW5 Lishi tool will not work accordingly. But if you are using a KW1 Lishi In a KW5 keyway, it will work as long as the Cylinder only has 5 pins in it.

This assuaged my anger at being sent the KW1 when I was thinking the 5 was smarter, now I realize I'm the dummy and I did the right thing.

How often do you run into 6 pin Schlage and Kwikset doors though? I have the SC4, and it seemed to open an SC1 5 pin lock fine, though I only used it the one time to test

The KW5 works perfectly well on both locks. You can even buy spacers for the KW5 to fit a KW1. 😂😂

So essentially you cannot tell whether the Kwikset lock is a 6 pin or a 5 pin until you try and insert both tools and see which seats itself best? Is there a way to tell before hand? Or it’s really just best to fit each of them in there and check the seating?

What is the average Australian residential door lock tool ? Ad in how many pins ? Most of our locks are made by Lockwood, or Yale etcetera

You can just use the spacer for the KW5.. it's a small plastic spacer you can buy or 3D print.. then you can use the KW5 for a 5 pin.. So you can get away with just 1 tool..

If you use the KW5 in a 5 pin lock you will only lift 5 pin stacks the 6 spot if there is one will be empty. I use the KW5.

the kw5 wont fit all the way in the lock doesn't mean it wont work it just moves pin 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 and so on if u only want to buy one get the kw5 save your money its just a little longer
