Doing this tomorrow to find a propane tank underground. Already have a general idea of the location, but need to know which way it points longways and sideways. Its about 15 ft long, and theres a county code that wont allow a structure to be built so many feet from it. Got my coat hangers ready for the morning. Dowsing is a millennium-old tradition for finding not just water but oil, minerals, etc. a good water dowser can often also redirect a vein of water into an old well that's run dry.
Knocking something just because you've never seen it before or just don't understand it is a sign of a closed mind.

I'm a utilities engineer, and I've used this as a last resort for locating watermain many times. It works, but isn't always reliable
