Learning to PLAY THE VIOLIN in 24 Hours???

Y'all, is it possible to learn to play an instrument in under 24 hours? Today I thought would be a good day to try it! I found and bought a used violin, downloaded a beginner violin app... let's see how well I do! (Please pray for everyone's ears!🙏🏻😂)

I consider myself a lifelong lover of education! I LOVE picking up new hobbies and learning new things, and over the years I’ve tried various random things that have become parts of my life. I taught myself piano, guitar, banjo, rock climbing, etc. I’m not particularly fabulous at any of these things, but I think its so much fun to try and see what sticks!

This year has been no exception to adding new hobbies. For a while now, I’ve wanted to teach myself a new instrument, and since my mom put me in violin 6 months back when I was 5... this seemed like a reasonable choice. Lets just say I was probably better as a kid than I was today haha!

I bought this violin off FB marketplace and seriously couldn't get it to stay tuned! Having no idea where to start, I downloaded a beginner violin app, but y'all... the STRUGGLE WAS REAL! I apologize in advance to your ears; pray for my skills to get better!

Do you play an instrument? If you do, COMMENT BELOW 👇🏻what it is! And if you don't, what instrument do you wish you could play? COMMENT that below, as well!

As a violinist who has played for a little under a decade, I’m impressed by how much you picked up in a day!

As a violinist who's been playing for 12 years I found this incredible entertaining lmao but you really did do a good job!! (:

Hey Kamri. So I have played the violin for a couple of years. I grew up with a musical grandma who knew how to play violin and the piano. She taught my sisters and I when we were about 5 or 6 how to play the violin. We also took lessons from my grandmas friend. She would assign us pieces to play and we would practice them and come back sometime in the next couple of weeks for another lesson. She taught us how to hold the bow, how to do vibrato, how to pluck the strings and so on. We used a violin book called Suzuki. You should look it up. It is really helpful and we would play the songs in there. You also can use colored pencils in the book to help remember things when you practice or notes. My sisters and I have done it for years. I haven't really been doing it much anymore because I never really liked to play the violin but I still sometimes consider doing it again. If you can take lessons from someone I think that that would really help. Also if you try tuning your violin with a piano (if you have one) that seems to help. It does take time to get good at it, but after continual practicing you should get better at it. I hope this helps. Also good job! You did great.

I did basically the same thing you are doing now almost a year ago! I played when I was little (5-9) and now I’m 25 and have been taking lessons for a bit lol. Raise your bow elbow a bit (should technically be above the bow hand) and relax your shoulder so the weight of your arm can help the bow stay firmly on the strings. Learn how to play each of the strings loudly and for the lower strings you should be able to see some pretty significant vibration in the string. Keep it up!

I’ve been playing the violin for 7 years and you did so good for just one day!! I think the biggest problem was that your strings were still out of tune after you tuned them using the pegs—trying bowing the strings while tuning and use the fine tuners unless you need a big adjustment. Turning to the left will loosen the string making the pitch lower and turning to the right will tighten the string making the pitch higher!! Your bow hold is really good for a beginner but try to make sure your thumb is bent and your pinky is rounded on top. Try to relax while you play too because playing while tense can be painful and not sound as good!! Overall, you did really good for a day and I hope you keep going!!

Hey! I'm a violist and I teach violin lessons. This was pretty good for picking it back up! posture and bowhold effort was made and it looked pretty good. peg tuning on the other hand is really tricky because it has to be done a certain way or the pegs slip which is what happened to you. definitely keep at it! violin looks really promising for you :)

I loved hearing about all the hobbies you've picked up and tried! It inspires me to delve into new hobbies and interests.

I've been playing violin for 7 years now and not bad! Yup, those strings are still pretty out of tune which probably made it more difficult for you to make it sound good. Try using the fine tuners, its easier to tune your violin :)

As a violinist for about 5 years i think you think amazing!! I think that because you knew how to play other instruments and able to read notes helped you a lot and also having experience. I never really thought about doing an instrument until i went to school. There was an orchestra with a few of the grades. I started doing private lessons and then i really started to enjoy it. I did it for a few years and then i stoped for a year and then i just started back up about a year ago and i have loved it.

I play violin (well I played classical music for two years then switched to fiddle)! Been playing for 12 years, won a few competitions. You did really well, the out of tune strings and the not rosined bow were the worst things haha but your playing was great! If you want to continue, I'd recommend definitely getting a better instrument (I know this was just for a video but still haha) Eastman ones are pretty decent starter ones, I've heard good things about Fiddlerman, Scott Cao and Cecilio as well. I'd love to see you continue this journey! Another cool thing would be if you taught your siblings (especially the twins) to play something. That would be a fun video!

You have an potential! I played in an orchestra for about 7 yrs and this is such a great start! Your bow hand is controlled and you are able to keep your bow from going crooked, along with your left wrist not touching the neck of the instrument! You had a relaxed position! Great job :)

String instruments are the hardest to pick up and successfully be good at it. I have played violin before switching to viola in fifth grade. Playing viola since fall of 2004

The violin sounds fun, but looks so difficult! I used to take lessons in piano and drums. In 6th grade I also temporarily learned guitar, but that did not last long

Violinist here, over all not bad at all. Yh the violin is pretty bad but $30 ain't gonna get you much. Great posture to say the least. I'm actually a little surprised how good it was. Over all by my 10 year experience playing since I was 8 I know it's a hard instrument that requires a lot of patience and constant practice. The start is the worst part but with the right training in 6 months you will play those songs with no issues. Wish you all the best and good luck on your violin journey. (Also be prepared for the blister from practicing and arm and shoulder cramps)
