Ukraine on Tuesday accused Russian forces of blowing up a major dam and hydroelectric power station in a part of southern Ukraine that Russia controls, sending water gushing from the breached facility and risking massive flooding. Ukrainian authorities ordered hundreds of thousands of residents downriver to evacuate. FRANCE 24's Gulliver Cragg reports from Kyiv, Ukraine.

Apparently the Russians refused to let the workers of the zoo in Nova Kahovka evacuate all the animals. All or most animals there are now dead because of that. I just saw video posted by one of the workers of the zoo and she was crying while she showed the flooded area.

How about we safely assume that the opposite of what Ruzzia is saying is actually true?

It's completely obvious who was responsible for blowing the dam - it's breached on the Russian occupied (left) side of the river. Ukraine couldn't even access the area that's been destroyed, because the road on the right side was broken since Russia retreated last year.

This was an act of ecocide that Ruzzia taken to:
- divert attention of its own population from the fact that Puzzin is not controlling Ruzzian territory in Belgorod.
- to slowdown Ukrainian offencive

Why would Russia blow up the dam?
1. Prevent Ukraine from using it to cross the Dnipr
2. Widen the Dnipr river to make amphibious crossings more difficult
3. Nullify some gains Ukrainians had with special ops on the south river banks
4. Threaten the nuclear power plant and potentially cause a nuclear incident (all the while blaming Ukraine for it)
5. Punish Ukrainians by destroying their infrastructure.

On the downside for Russia, it also means that Crimea loses its water access, but I assume Russia might think that Crimea will be lost eventually anyway

The Zaporizhzhia plant is a minor target of the Ukrainian summer offensive and can't be be defended, so Russia prefers to let it run out of cooling water...

Why ? What is to be gained by creating this catastrophic event ? It seems it would be categorized as an Act Against Humanity

Now ruzzia can move forces from the Kerson region to reinforce south and the east fronts.
…but not for very long.

The Zaporizhzhia NPP is still under control of terrorussia, and it is mined, too. So there is the huge risk of further nuclear catastrophe. There can be not enough water for cooling of the NPP or the terrorussians can blow the NPP, too. What does the UN say? What does the IAEA say? Still no nuclear sanctions against russia?

Why would Russia destroy it's own fresh water source for Crimea?

We can conclude that Ukraine long delayed hyped up "Counteroffensive" was simply a more acceptable term for terrorism. UAF blew up the dam after the famous "counter-offensive" turned into a turkey shoot for Russia Armed Forces. The strike on the Kakhovskaya dam was an act of desperation by Ukrainian troops on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. After losing so many tanks and cannon fodder, flooding the plains around Kherson was the only option left for the NATO puppet government.
