Tip: Rotation and Hips on Takeaway C
Hi Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf in beautiful Palm Springs. One of the great interrupters to a good swing even if you have all the principles right (maintaining correct spine angle, loading up the left side and, turning through the golf swing) has to do with the takeaway and what happens to the hips. If the hips are accidentally moved laterally during the backswing you will end up in a very stuck position. Now what happens is the hips are behind, the sternum far ahead and when you try to get over to the left side you cannot do it. You will either crash into the ground or wobble through the ball with a loss of power.
A simple way to correct lateral hip slide is to feel at the beginning of your backswing that there is just a turn, just feel the beginning of a turn. Then you can make that weight transfer, loading up the left side and turn around it.

In review, as you begin your takeaway make sure you just start a little bit of a turn (the right hip turns back, around and perpendicular to the spine). Once the hip is turning it will not be sliding out. Remembering to make a rotational hip turn at takeaway will help create a consistent, powerful swing.
