As you said it helps relieve the feeling of I can't take time off, training will stop, nope we have your back. Also, the professional growth from learning the information the other is training on and so on. really cross trainng makes u worth less as a employee, this way if u don t do it someone at the company can, only enforces the saying everyone is replaceable, now though companies can t find help and they starting to find the worth of a good employee,
