I'm in veterinary medicine but it is no different. As a 5th year student, I had to scratch a surgeons nose, rearrange his glasses, sort through a pile of actual trash to see whether he had lost something and then was asked why I wasn't enjoying the music visibly. He was listening to the soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy on full blast. It was like something from the start of a horror movie.

Absolutely amazing, it's hard studying medicine but after watching your videos, I just cannot give up this easily, it's a bit of a toxic culture but your videos show both sides and that is why I and many more ppl keep moving forward

I’m a vascular surgeon of 20 years. I’m sending many of your videos to colleagues in other specialties. We’re all laughing because they’re all spot on accurate! Keep up the good work. I wish I could be as talented

“It’s just hard getting up at 3 am everyday and saving all these lives all day in the OR.”

-a 2nd year gen surgery resident recently said this to me. Of course that was after she degraded our professions as unworthy. Same resident also told me this story about “this RUDE flight attendant.” She demanded a flight attendant treat her with more respect because “I’m the one who has to save lives on this plane if somebody has a medical problem.”

I truly feel sorry for anybody that encounters this creature.

If things keep going like this with the other specialties, (the neurology *shudder* ) the therapist will need a therapist

After over a year of surgical training, I can honestly say I've become a way bigger asshole than I thought I could ever be. I don't even recognize myself sometimes when I'm in the ER. What is it about this field that makes us love it so much while it simultaneously robs us of our humanity?

I like how he shows him Mark in a scrub cap and mask, peering over a screen. Otherwise he really would have no clue who he was.

The Flingenlooper is an orthopedic instrument: a looped forceps designed to be flung across the room (hence the name) when the surgeon doesn’t get his way. General surgeons use a Tossenretractor, which serves a similar purpose. The joke is that both instruments are only available in even French sizes, so a 7 French Flingenlooper isn’t a thing.

Nothing is more real than the surgeon trying to demote the med student for not knowing the keyboard player from Pink Floyd.

I couldn't be further away from the medical field, being a political science major, but I cannot stop watching your videos 😂 Keep going! Love from Italy 🇮🇹

I always hated surgery because of certain surgeons. We had an ortho surgeon who would pick one person on the surgical team and ride their ass the entire case. He would call their name over and over and over again. I once was called to do a double case with him, hip and shoulder pinnning, and I gave serious thought to running my foot over with the C-arm so I wouldn’t have a chance to be the one in his crosshairs for the five hour case.

Surgeon: I have the largest brain in medicine!

Dude! Just scrubbed out of a case and saw this drop. This is very familiar 🤔 of a few my senior residents and attendings in surgery during my training. I'm having some PTSD moment here. You did good.

My dad is a general surgeon and it was all true, not even a bit off

When he said ‘I have the largest brain in medicine.’, I wondered if he was going to follow up with ‘Want to see it.’ Then bring out a brain in a jar.
