How To Teach Your Dog The Place Command

Subscribe for weekly dog training tips, tricks, and content! Today’s topic: teaching your dog the Place Command 🐶🐾

Step 1️⃣ choose where you want your dog’s place area to be. The most common area is their dog bed. We suggest using a raised dog bed but really any bed will do as long as you follow these next few steps👇

Step 2️⃣ Say “place” and use leash tension to get your dog on their dog bed. Once your dog is on their bed, wait for eye contact, say “Yes!” and get them off their bed to give them their reward 🦴

Step 3️⃣ After enough reps of step one, try doing it without the leash or body language and only say the command 🗣️

Step 4️⃣ Now the goal is duration. Get them on their bed using the command (and assist with your dog’s leash if needed). Once your dog is on the bed, wait for eye contact and then pretend to walk away. If they jump off, use your body language to get them back on their bed. Regain eye contact and count to 4 then reward accordingly ⏰

Step 5️⃣ Once you are ready for your dog to break the command, say “Free!” and reward 👍
