When I had a toddler and a newborn, my older folks came to stay and "help" for a week. My dad often went outside to check the mail and forgot to lock the front door.
The front door looks exactly like any traditional front door. One morning the front door just opened and a middle aged man walked in. I asked if I could help him.
He looked surprised that someone was home and pretended that he thought the door was just a hall entrance to the main door. He claimed to be a "private detective" who was observing the residents across the street. (A young, quiet couple). I ushered him out the door, saying we couldn't help him. I still wish I had called the police, but nothing like that happened again.

My sister-in-law and I were home one morning and this lady walked in our back door. Yes, it was our fault for not locking the back door. It’s the back door. We didn’t think we would have an issue. She walked in and said she was looking for someone named Danny Wilson that it was her boss. I told her this was a Wilson residence but we don’t have anybody named Danny in our family. She seemed calm, but confused when she was speaking to me, but the second my sister-in-law walked around the corner and she realized I was not home alone she all but ran from the house. I think it was a set up and she was trying to see if I was home alone or if there was anybody home alone. Maybe she was gonna report back to other people and her team and they were gonna do exactly what happened to the guy in last story… we never saw her again, and nothing ever happened. And then again, we became diligent about locking the doors even if we are going to be going back out them a few minutes later…

Never tell anyone that you're home alone or live alone. Especially if you're in an odd scenario.

Do not leave your doors unlocked and if you want to live in a secluded area, well then expect the unexpected with a weirdo lurking around your property. There are so many loonie tunes nowadays, and not safe anymore like it used to be in the past. FYI: back in 1985 we had Richard Ramirez the Nightstalker jump over our property, and my mom saw him and described him as tall, light skinned, long wavy hair and good looking lol My mom opened the kitchen door slightly and broke a large beer bottle against the wall, and he ran off. He thought it was just one person living there because the owner had a barbershop there before, but little did he know there was a large fsmily living there lol. I was around 20 at the time and the funny part is that i named my little brother Richard and our last name is Ramirez, but he was 3 at that time and he used to get teased about it lol

First story: took the cops 15 minutes to arrive and the crazy dude with the gun STILL hung around the whole time to be arrested. I’m so confused why he A) didn’t run or B) break a window or shoot out a lock. Why just hang outside that long. Makes no sense
