We just had a 2001 bmw 525i come in with this same issue. On top of the engine, under the cover, the wires were broken. Looks like people didn't know how to put the cover back on and broke them. Customer went to another repair shop and spent over $400 to replace the oxygen sensor. Found your video and repaired the wires in 10 minutes. Customer is so happy I happened to see your video. Thanks!

When I saw the country local and the gravel pad just like my work area I said "I guess it isn't just me". I have a two car garage but it's full of tool chests and engines. Both my sensor #2 wire harnesses had the strange cuts in them with broken wires and I see everyday who is doing it. Squirrels and other rodents. Nice clear video.

@Nathan's DIY Garage I have a 1998 e38 740il. I've been tuning it up a little here a little there. I've owned it for about 2 months now. When I bought it it would have a little shake every now and again. Eventually it became constant. Recently I put 8 new NGK-R plugs in it and it ran perfect for about 10 mins. Then it started to have a little engine shake again but worse than before. I checked the codes and they were for the 2 postcat o2 sensors and the passenger side precat sensor. I got 4 working oem sensors off of a wrecked but running 98 740il. Installed them all and reset the codes. I pulled the plugs out and the drivers side were lightly frosted and the passenger side were fouled and black. I now have p0130 as the only code and I put my old bosch platinum +4's back in it. It runs smoother than the single prong ngk-r's but the mpg's are worse. Should I just swap one of my old precat o2 sensors back in it? And lastly is there anything else that would cause one side of the plugs to be fouled that wouldn't affect the other side other than the o2 sensor? Thanks. Love your videos.

I also see small exhaust leaks or intake leaks that aren't properly diagnosed. Scanner will automatically tell you o2 sensor circuit. But I've fixed so many leaks because of customers or there mechanics going by what there snap on scanner says. When I can see the engine stumbles. Hear exhaust leak or tiny intake leaks BMW is notoriously doing this

I have the same issue, instant CEL after replacing both sensors. I've checked the ohms on the heater side and their both fine. I do wonder if its still a bad sensor

light maybe on for very different codes if its a sensor code you have to find out which one, car may have more than 2 . Some have a lot of those things. especially huge engines with lots of cylinders .make sure its a code for same sensor. Installing just 1 brand new sensor may trigger codes for other sensors . But if you keep getting code for same sensor it maybe bad or you contaminated entrance with some chemicals .

There are lots of cheap aftermarket sensors that simply not good right from the start due to failure in manufacturing process. I would stay away from them. buy only OEM sensor from reputable source. Check your manual.

I've got a 1999 saturn SC 2 with 86, 000 miles the check engine light came on and said bad o2 sensors, I changed both with Denso sensors and it was fine for about 4 weeks then the same light came back on with the same computer readout bad O2 sensors...maybe a vacuum leak/exhaust leak somewhere or need to use original manufacturer sensors instead of the aftermarket sensors?

I found a blk wire cut that comes from o2 sensor b1s1 upstream I'm the front but o2 sensor only has 4 wires not 5. The connector has the cut one bit there's 5 on that side. Any idea if this is it?
Mine is 2002 camry v6 p1135 and p1155. I've checked fuses relays. And ohms test b4 replacing the o2 sensors. Light still on .

Thanks for the great video's Nathan, I seem to have damaged the front (bank 1 sensor 1) wires on my 2002 e46, would that cause a Trans Limp mode to come on? Thanks much for any response.

Will that same o2 sensor blow the heater fuse also? My car heater fuse keep blowing but the check engine light says its the bank1 sensor 1 issue. Could it be that 02 heating up and blowing the 20 amp fuse under the hood?

Great video. Yet I have an issue .
I've done a tuneup and also changed the o2 sensor in my 94 cadillac deville and the check engine light still comes on. Sometimes after a mile or so while driving other times after several miles.
I have no clue as to what it could be sense it's an older model car and uses the OBD1 tester which no one seems to have anymore.
I've done the manual service check and all that comes up is the a/c as current .

Hi Nathan! So I changed the 02 sensors all 4 upstream and downstream on my 06 325i and now for some reason it won’t start. It was running before the swap and. Is it won’t turn over? Any ideas what could be the cause?

I've got a 2007 BMW X5, it has the same problem. Damn you! Now I've gotta do a wiring check! LOL
Thanks for confirming what I have to do now! Great video.
