Under Japanese law, if a company makes a worker take time off due to company circumstances, they must pay a leave allowance of at least 60% of the worker's average daily wage, unless it's due to a natural disaster or other force majeure events. Don't just accept it—make sure to go to the Labor Standards Inspection Office and file a complaint. It would be better to go with someone who understands Japanese. The company might be taking advantage of the fact that you're a foreigner and assume you don't know the law. As a Japanese person, I apologize for that.

Really? That's impossible. Under Japanese law, every worker has an employment contract, and the company cannot fire someone on the spot, even part-time workers. It's a different story if it's a case of property damage, embezzlement, or causing harm to the company. If it really happened, the company is in the wrong, and if you report it to the Labor Standards Inspection Office, you can get compensation.

Unless you did something wrong, You wouldn't be "fired" on the spot in Japan, Because employees have to inform you to lose your job one month in advance or they have to pay one month's salary if they lay off you on the spot. If you didn't do anything wrong, You should go to a Labour standard inspection office !

契約社員だったのかな?
契約更新しないって事なのか?
それでも事前通知する義務がある
当日に解雇通告するのは労基違反ですね

If they fired you without cause, such as "they are overstaffed", they should have to pay out the remainder of months on your contract. I had a company release me in October a few years ago and they had to pay me all the way through April, as well as give me my bonus. I'd look into it.

How you ended up in Japan at your age and working and trying to make a living there, I don't know, but as someone who sees going to Japan and learning the language as a life goal, I respect that. I go through my struggles too in the US and I have come to realize (I'm 34) that having at least 6 months worth of living expenses is vital. Stuff like this happens and I have been in your position numerous times. I feel you. Wish you the best and thank you for sharing...

I'm sorry to hear that, but don't give up, don't let negative thoughts affect you. You can and will find another opportunity. I wish you good luck and be brave.

労働基準法違反として労働基準監督署に申告してください。

50万から100万くらいが慰謝料の相場のようです。

違法なので弁護士に相談することを強くおすすめします。

There are so many kind Japanese comments here, with a lot of people apologizing for the way you were fired without notice, and recommending the 'Labor Standards Bureau'. I find that so refreshing in a world that seems to have forgotten common decency, but I have to ask, she said she was there on a Holiday Visa, not a Working Visa...can she still argue the firing without notice, seeing as how (as I understand it) she shouldn't be working anyway? Whatever the case, I empathize with your predicament, been there done that, so I wish you luck in sorting this out.
