1. Do the rays of light from the sun travel through space as an actual image of the sun... or as non-distinct dispersed light rays?

It is the latter of course, but if it was the former...

2. Since light travels in straight lines, why would the mirage image of the sun that traveled 93 million miles to our atmosphere appear to us as the same size we always see the sun, instead of as if we were seeing the sun from 62 miles away (the height of the atmosphere)?

0:55 from our perspective we actually perceive that the sun is actually moving around our planet.. if you want to know what really happens then you might have to look on our planet from the sun

6:58 sir why is the shift stronger when the object is lower in the sky; the refractive index has to remain constant so if the angle of incidence will increase so will the angle of refraction ?
