Try this, it works.
Plant carrot seed, water, then place a 1x4x8 board over top. After 6 days check daily for germination. Remove board when seeds start popping.

Great video! I have a raised bed that I'm growing my carrots in. I did this to hopefully prevent the soil from compacting. I would think this would yield longer carrots but it's not. The greens seem to be at the point of flowering and the carrots themselves are thin and short. What could this mean and how could I fix it?

I thought stubby carrots are the result of the lack of phosphorus and too much nitrogen. The clay pan will force the carrot to grow extra carrots and will look like something from under a milking cow.
