Film Theory: Frozen 2 is DANGEROUS. Here's why.

In Frozen 2, a key plot point is the idea presented by everyone's favorite snowman, Olaf. He tells us that water has memory. That is a concept that has been around for a while and, while I am not one to fault the water based science of a creature that is literally made from frozen WATER, that is exactly what I am here to do. You see, that was something I needed to learn more about and, OH BOY, did I find out how bad Olaf's science really is! Don't let a snowman teach you science Theorists!

*Does 'Smartwater' have better memory than basic water and if you shout insults at it, will it have a witty comeback? Does it silently judge you for your social indiscretions? Is 'smartwater' a smug jerk? Is it "Smugwater?"*

"People thinking water has memory isn't going to hurt them"

<slow glance to all of the people who stop taking their medication to instead take doses of water claimed to have the 'memory' of said medication who end up dead or severely unwell>

MatPat: talks about the most iconic part of the movie

Doesn't mention the scene when Olaf acted out the first movie

I had a friend with legitimate medical concerns for her children. She was convinced homeopathy (the idea that one particle of substance per biillion particles of water is effective medicine because water has a "memory") was how to treat her kids. Her kids didn't die and that convinced her that this philosophy is good medicine, so now she travels the US selling essentially water to people with legitimate health concerns. If they die, they did something wrong. If they live she is their savior. What we are talking about here is homeopathy and it is dangerous because people forego legitimate healthcare for distilled water.

I got really scared when Matpat started quoting the original water memory study, that he was gonna claim that water does indeed have memory. I was very relieved when he kept going😂

My alarm bells immediately went off when I heard that the siren call was based on the Dies Irae. If there is one thing I learned from Sideways it is that Dies Irae = Death. And (SPOILER) Elsa technically dies in the movie. And I think after the moment she 'died' you don't hear that call anymore. I legitimately am blown away.

This one hits close to home. Ever since I watched that movie with my mom, she has completely believed that fact. Even tho, right after the movie I told her that I was coincidentally reading about it not a long time ago and that it was disproved many times. And I was really furious because they were pushing that message as a fact. Every since then she spreads the lie to everyone she knows and buys extremely expensive water because of it.

It definitely gets downplayed but hats off to your editor. It's amazing how Every second of your videos are so full of energy and life and it's only accentuated by the editing

Another cool thing about James Randi: He used to open almost every lecture by disproving the "water has memory" idea by downing an obscene level of homeopathic caffeine pills.

See, I interpreted "some people dispute it, but it's true" as Disney saying "this is bullshit, but it's integral to our plot, so get all the way off of my back about this."

Well, to contrast what you mention at the end, teaching children that water has memory could lead them to be more susceptible to alternative therapies, such as homeopathy; an alternative therapy specifically being based around this idea of dilution and water memory. Furthering what you mentioned, it teaches children to ignore the skeptics and just believe, a thought process quite at odds with critical thinking.

When I heard the line, "Water has memory" I jokingly remarked, "Oh great, Olaf is a homeopath." In homeopathy, it's believed that diulting a chemical in the water, and agitating it, and then diluting it again, etc. makes the chemical stronger, because the water "remembers" the chemical that it held. I really thought that you were going to talk about the dangers of homeopathy and "alternative medicines"

I always assumed the “water has memory” thing just comes from the fact that water is just so old and has been around since the beginning of life because of the water cycle. And they just extended that idea like any writer has when brainstorming and went “bUt WhAt iF wAtEr ReMeMbErS tHe PlAcEs iTs bEeN aNd ThInGs iTs SeEn”.
Then made that a movie😂

Teacher: why are you giving me a glass of water?
Student: Well you see, my homework got destroyed by water, and then I remembered that water has memory so I gave you the water.
