It's a Motorcraft 2150 2V carb. That intake manifold is cast iron so it's going to be rusty inside, that's not a problem.

That carb spacer has the EGR valve on it. If you don't have emission testing on that age vehicle in your area you could replace it with a standard carb spacer. But you will need to cut out a 1/8" thick steel plate to put in under the spacer to block off the exhaust passage hole that feeds the EGR valve. If you don't you will have a exhaust leak.

Yes that is the thermostat housing . That's where the thermostat should be. The spring part of the thermostat goes towards the engine.

Flush the cooling system to remove as much of that gunk as possible. Do a search on different ways to flush it. you can use straight water from a water hose. Or there are chemical flushing compounds. I've even used vinegar.

And with the engine tore down this far. Pull the 3 small bolts to remove the crankshaft pulley. Then pull the large crank bolt. Remove the washer off that bolt and then reinstall the crank bolt about half way to 2/3's the way. Then using a harmonic balancer puller to remove the balancer. Do not use a gear puller or hammer or pry bar to try and remove it. If you do, you will destroy the balancer. Once the balancer is off unbolt and remove the timing cover. There are the bolts around the perimeter of the cover and then a few that come up thru the bottom on the oil pan. Once the cover is off replace the timing set. If you don't you will be kicking yourself later, when you have to pull all the same crap off the engine to tear it down again to do it.

While you have the front end off and the accessories off the front of the engine do yourself a favor and pull the harmonic balancer and timing chain cover and install new timing chain kit. Easy peasy with your level of disassembly now.

I'm so envious... I wish I had project vehicle like one of these and the space to work on them. Even if it's not worth spending the time and money, if you're spending quality time with your friends and family and you're having fun doing it then it's all worth it.

Picked up a 73 F250 as a project truck last month. Just getting ready to de-rust the bed. Look forward to the rest of your vids on this 74!

Might consider getting a timing chain and gear set.. The 360 and 390 FE engines often stretched the chains.
That results in backfires through the manifold and general misfire issues.
Water pump... C5 is 1965 casting date..
Ford used that pump for years in the FE block trucks, carrying into the mid 1970s.
The Thermostat is indeed missing.
Its possible that the housing needs replaced.
Be careful when you install those, its possible to locate them wrong and snap the thermostat housing!

I use a cardboard box bottom to keep all of the bolts in order. Push the bolts into the cardboard as you take them off. You can use it to hold the bolts upright when you paint them.

I was excited for the F250, but now I'm super excited for the Bronco. I have an '84 that I am working on. It's not as cool as the old ones, but it is fun. Thanks for the videos!

Nice to see people rebuilding old steel. I'll never sell my old truck to drive the new stuff.

Thanks for your explanation on Rusty; so many people have been wondering what happened since the project was going so well. So this F250 replaces your other one?! Get this one on the road again! Many comments from a lot of knowledgeable people here; listen to them so that you’re thoroughly successful. We’re rooting for you!

Your videos are so amazing! Thank you for the great content, it helps so much, I just started a 1976 f150 project! It was a 7up delivery truck and has a 8ft flareside bed

The fan blades are offset because it is quieter. There is no harmonic noise from the fan.
