The first of what we hope will be a long running series, Tones & Teardowns gets to the heart of what makes gear tick! We want to see how well it's made, how repairable it is and whether it's well designed.

The TC Electronic SCF Gold is the first piece of gear on the bench. A reissue of the first ever TC product, it's a classic chorus/modulation pedal that's been brought into the 21st century. Featuring chorus, vibrato and flanger settings, it was well ahead of its time. How well has it made the leap to the new price point?

Cool concept for a video, I like the breakdown of the pedal.

Great review of a great pedal, thanks!

I'm running my DAW output through this pedal in mono with a stereo return back into my interface. The right channel is much louder than the left. Do you have any idea of what could cause this?

Cool video! I just took a dive down into the diy pedal rabbit hole. I've taken two small electronics classes, but they were years ago. Still, I like seeing all parts. I actually have a number of those ICs.
Nice playing, too, I'm looking forward to more videos, subbed.

Wow, lots of naysayers in the comments. I came here to find out what components (especially the BBD) were on the board and I wasn't disappointed. Great teardown and analysis, thank you. It does make me wonder how close it sounds to the old mn3007 version.

What was the BBD Chip used in the original TCE Stereo Chorus Flanger in the late 1970s-80s? MN3005 or MN3007/MN3008?
How many BBDs Chips were used?

Hi is this pedal similar to the original? Thanks

It it supposed to be closer to the original 70’s/80’s unit? The later reissue didn’t sound the same..

No wonder it sounds so magnificent. Unlike popular opinion would lead you to believe, the 3207 destroys the 3007 bd chip.

Is the SCF mnufactured in Denmark still or China or does it say?

Well made video but why ( like so many other reviews ) spend so much time with the controls maxed out or very high, where hardly anyone uses it . Maybe a small clip using the stereo outs would have been nice 😊👍

This is an interesting video concept that can potentially be extremely informative; however, what are your conclusions? I think that, without being an expert in electronics, it's hard to understand your opinion about what you saw.

It looks cheaply made but I appreciate the lack of graphics and stupid name.

You just demod a stereo pedal in mono? what a waste of time. that is the best you could do?
