The importance of computing variables has been very well explained and so also the two methodologies. Very good learning. I find your step-by-step approach helpful. The fear of using SPSS has been diluted

Pls sir, can you provide a link for the dataset?

Sir why you measured the questionnaire items in nominal nor scale?

Is computing the mean of the Nominal/Ordinal variables will result in a single Scale variable like in the video? or we have to change the measure of the resulting variable into the original Nominal/Ordinal measure?

Thank you for this teaching, i want to ask, for my data the variable has one item that is open ended and has a string data type. I couldn't perform the compute variable until i removed the item. ( It was displaying one if the operands for arithmetic operation is other than a numeric variable ir numeric expression). How can i do the compute variable without excluding this item from my variable?

I used it for one case, it worked thank you! But when I entered the next case data, I had to repeat the steps! Is there a trick to use the same computation steps for every case separately? Or shall I wait till entering all the data?
My example was a sum of a questionnaire items to avoid calculating error when entering each case.. thank you in advance

Thanks a lot. I would like to use a single composite variable of a 4 items likert-scale variables, to make corrolation in regression. i would like to know if i should use the MEAN or SUM of the all the indicators i put together to form one composite variable for my corrolation and regression analysis. Can you please provide the link where you explain how to use the composite variables to do regression and corrolation. your reply will help a lot.

is this is the only way to compute variables before heading toward other calculations like descriptive and correlations, regressions sir? I saw some people just plus the variables and then get compute variable without divide by number of variables. Is it wrong?
