Dave, it's a 6 core 12 thread CPU, don't throw it! Still a very usable CPU. Not your usual 4 core 8 thread i7. Those 2 extra cores will help out a lot :)

X58 was way ahead of it's time, with a modern GPU you could still be using that PC today for gaming and everything.

If you keep it, please install a 3rd 4GB RAM Module in it. These first generation i7s have triple-channel-memory support, which is still relatively rare on consumer CPUs. By running on just 2 sticks, you're giving up that feature.

The yellow USB ports signifies a sleep and charge port. Even when the computer is powered off you can use the yellow USB Ports to charge other devices such as your Mobile phone, etc.

Isn't the usual trick with those X58 boards to go to Ali Express and get an old Xeon for $25 or so and throw into them?

The i7 970 is a 6 core 12 thread CPU. Still relevant for moderate work loads. Also most games will run on that CPU just fine. Worth about $150.00 to $170.00 on E Bay. Not a terrible

I love dumped PCs and notebooks ! Usually they only have minor problems that are easily repaired and make for great donations to varied non profit institutions. The ones that aren't repaired are used for parts. Just seeing one go from the trash to a home or institution is satisfying !

thats one of the most expensive motherboards for that socket, with corsair dominator ram and a 6 core cpu in it, thats a pretty insane thing to find by the dumpster

It has 8gb of ram not 16. It is a 8gb ram kit, 2x4gb.

Dude this pc still rocks! Slap an ssd and a radeon 580 or geforce 1060 and you will have great 1080p high gaming experience

Dave that's a very nice PC, a little better than mine. Mine has 8GB RAM also 3.1ghz CPU.



Take off that CPU cooler fins and clean it well and put new thermal paste on, clean all cobwebs out of the mobo and you have another good PC for something. I have three laptops, one with no screen which I salvaged from the trash and it works, hooked it to a 32 inch TV and a few times I played games on it.
