Even though it's the largest and one of the most powerful countries in the world, people know shockingly little about Russia. I know you can find thousands of videos and websites about the country, but nobody talks about the essence of this nation, the little details. Well, this series is aiming to rectify that. So join me as we discover yet another one of Russia's many federal subjects: the oblast of Kirov.

1. Kirov Oblast is a federal subject of Russia. The territory of the region is 120 374 km² . Population – 1.250.173 people. (2021). Urban population - 78.52% (2020).
2. In the 7th - 10th centuries, the first nationalities were formed on the Vyatka land. By the beginning of the II millennium A.D. NS. the tribes of the Mari, Udmurts and Komi were formed. Throughout the territory of the Upper Kama interfluve, a network of Udmurt settlements appears. The penetration of the Slavs into the Vyatka basin began in the second half of the 12th century.
3. Kirov is the largest city and administrative center of Kirov Oblast.
4. This area is known to have speakers of the Vyatka Russian dialects. They are considered the most archaic among all its groups, since they better than others preserve the phonetics and morphological features of the dialect of the Novgorod land of the XIII-XIV centuries.
5. During the Second World War, more than 600,000 residents of the Kirov region served in the Red Army, 257,900 of them were killed.
6. Kirov oblast has a variety of natural, historical and cultural resources attractive for tourists. Twelve ancient towns and villages have great potential for tourism. The region has more than 200 protected areas. On the territory of the Kirov region there are about 3,500 monuments of archeology, history, urban planning, and architecture. There are more than 50 museums. Every year, the Kirov region is visited by about 20 thousand foreigners and more than 260 thousand tourists from other regions of Russia.
7. Sergei Mironovich Kirov was a Soviet politician and Bolshevik revolutionary whose assassination led to the first Great Purge. In 1934, Vyatka was renamed Kirov in honor of Sergei Kirov, a Russian revolutionary, Soviet statesman and political figure who was killed December 1, 1934.
