"I swear, I'll try a peaceful run this time" every one of us has uttered these words at least once

First time using a collosus: "What have I done?"
5th time: "Well, it saves the lives of my troops."
15th time: "There was an uneven number of planets in that system - and that bothered me."

"Why would you bomb primitive planets?!"
"Because that's how you say "hello" in galactic language ;)"
"BUT WHY ARMAGEDDON?!"
"It was a warm welcome!"

My headphones gave me beeping sounds as they ran out of charge right after the planet exploded. Needless to say - perfect timing

Genocide is bad?

Why is then my game running smoother after I wiped 50% of living things?

Devs made it that way ... so it cant be that wrong.

1st: xenophile, egalitarian, pacifist, forming federations and uniting the galaxy in peace
5th: fanatic xenophobe, militarist, last few games had to be ended prematurely because of lag and is unsatisfied with being good
15th: fanatic materialist, xenophobe, min maxing all the time and playing with mods like gigastructural engineering, ancient caches of technology, and zenith of the fallen empires

I once tried playing peacefully and diplomatic. Then I found my first neighbour - aliens, of course, but with eels sucking at their foreheads. Stuff like this makes you a xenophobe quite fast.

I haven't played in years, and I'm behind on the dlc, but I remember once I wiped out an entire rebellion save for a single planet that I turned into a snow globe as a warning for my disgruntled population to not screw with me. Good memories.

As someone who went to warhammer 40k before getting into stellaris, the option of this so called "peace" has always intrigued me, but best to not explore these unknown options since risking to falling to chaos is too great

1st playthrough: we should be friends and be merry, lets share tech and together we will face adversity and prevail.
5th playthrough: suffer not the alien, the mutant, and the Heretic.
15th playthrough: some of you may die but it's a sacrifice i am willing to make.
100th playthrough: perfectly balance as it should be (casually eradicating half the planets in the galaxy to reduce lag)

The first rule of Stellaris is like that one in Calvinball: every playthrough ALWAYS becomes a variation of Warhammer. No exceptions.

The only time i played as a pacifist i was trying to get the achievement to be at peace for a long time. I tried so hard, only for some empire weaker than me to declare an ideological war on me.

It ruined my achievement that took several hours up to that point, several very boring hours, and it pissed me off enough that i switched fanatic pacifists to fanatic xenophobes and promptly didnt rest until i wiped that empire off the face of the galaxy.

Meanwhile, my favourite way to play:
- Immortal leader mod
- 20 mid-game crisis mods
- Barbaric despoilers that kidnap people from around the galaxy to save them from mid-game crisises (I give slaves decent conditions)
- "You are being resqued, please do not resist"

My first stellaris game: United Nations of Earth, trying to be all friendly and diplomatic
My fifth stellaris game: Devouring Swarm who just wanted to be left alone and would only attack another race if it annoyed the Hive (Such as taking a system I wanted)
My fifteenth stellaris game: ALL MUST BE CONSUMED - YOU ARE NAUGHT BUT SLIGHTLY MORE INTELLIGENT PREY

1st playthrough: "Vile Xeno scum!"
69th playthrough: "Vile Xeno scum!"

1st playthrough is like: I want to help people and engage in diplomacy!

5th playthrough is like: I WILL WIPE OUT EVERY XENO I SEE OR I’LL DIE TRYING!

15th playthrough is like: It’s not that I personally dislike you, it’s just that you’re in the way.

The transition from ‘there’s a lot of work to do are you ready?’

To the sun over some baked desert with a Titan just strolling killed me.

Edit: after a stern talking to from a tech-priest I have amended my heresy from ‘mech’ to ‘titan’. The emperor protects.

15th playthrough is so true. Once you get skilled and powerful enough you feel like a clay sculptor, shaping the galaxy to your liking.
