The Battle for South America’s Finest Pointbreak…

Показать описание
Chile is famous for its left-hand points and abundance of swell and for hosting one of the world’s premier big wave lefts–Punta de Lobos. On small days, the point is a fun, wally, performance-based left, but on the biggest South Pacific swells, the place transforms into a freight train left-hand wall. But what many people don’t know is that Punta de Lobos was almost lost forever…

in 2000, I surfed there for a few months. My recollection: Fantastic 60 seconds long, cramp inducing wave, cold water, all sand, no reef. The sand is black and eerie. If you are under water after getting pummeled or caught inside, its pitch black. ferocious current, at times you needed to paddle hard to stay still. Not a difficult wave, not a top to bottom take off but hollow sections you'll need to milk to connect. never closes out. 2 feet or 20 feet If you can connect the sections, you'll have to take the wave all the way in and walk back out to the morros. no one paddles back out. Its easier and quicker (but still 30 minutes) to walk, rock climb, swim, and paddle to the morros and then jump off the morro back into the lineup. Someone should do a video on getting out to the line up. It is its own adventure.

Patagonia is one of the only brands that actually protects the places it shows around the world and sticks up for the locals who have enjoyed them for generations. Great video as always!

Thanks for the positive outcome presentation . Quite informative. When Punta de Lobos goes off, it’s no joke. It’s downright breath taking. (Scary) Those stone formations (Lobos) are way bigger than they look just like the waves there! Peace 🤙

what a great story! yours and surfing community efforts really stands out on this kind of situations. i have seen many damaged waves in this part of the world which with some more conscientious manage would have been truly well preserved while projects keep developing

Nice story, I have lived here for over 24 years, I do not go to punta lobos much anymore. I go more north now but Chile is the longest coast in the world and has amazing spots. Lobos is amazing but has been getting over crowded bc of videos like these LOL.

First place I ever surfed, had no idea the significance of the spot at the time, I can confirm it's a really beautiful and special place with some wild sunsets.
