Speed Math Shortcut - Multiplying numbers using Trachtenberg method: Example 1

I used to use this in middle school, my dad taught me when I was in elementary. But my math teachers kept giving me F grades because of the way you have to write out the equations. They didn't understand it. Lol

It seems like a lot of work to get the answer.  I wonder if one were to pit chinese multiplication against this method, which would come out the winner.  I'm betting that the one doing chinese multiplication will win hands down.
