Maria Konopnicka, who wrote the lyrics, was highly esteemed book writer.

Rota is not the Polish national anthem, but it is treated in a similar way, i.e. you have to stand during the performance. the lyrics were originally an ordinary poem (a kind of solemn oath) wrote in reaction to strong Germanization and two years later the music was made for it.

Thanks for having the guts to play the verse with the Germans. Some foreigner youtubers omit that verse for political correctness reasons. The Germans (and Russians) have a long history of oppressing Poles. One way was to force the children to study at school either in German or Russian. Hence Germanification or Russification.

To understand this song properly, you have to go back to the 17th century when Poland was losing its independence (1772-1795 - three partitions of Poland in total. At that time, 1795-1918, Poland was not on the map of Europe because it was occupied by the Russians, Austria-Hungary and Prussia. Even though Poland did not exist, its spirit, native language and desire for independence were enormous. It was achieved in 1918. Even though the country did not exist, Poland did not perish, among other things, thanks to songs like these.
