I love my new "The Frame" 4K UHD TV from Samsung. My wife loves it too. But there's one major flaw with the design of the One Connect connector that I sure hope Samsung will fix...

I love it when a company changes their entire product line just for one person extreme corner case

I wish more companies would do this when developing products. Usually they get it the next time around if they listen to audience critique though.

people need to stop installing small conduits in their house, a 1inch or an inch and a half and this problem wouldn’t have happened

I had the same problem. You can pry the plastic housing off of the metal connector with a small screwdriver. The metal 'guts' of the connector is small enough to pass through my conduit. Once through, the plastic cover snaps right back on.

But the plug IS the plug you “want”. You can’t put a plug on a plug lol.

It was twice as big on q9fn, this connector is a huge progress😊

Thank you! I was looking at the end of the plug and thought it could be pried about with a small flathead. I’m going to attempt that because that seems like my best option at this point.

I have my tv above my fireplace. We mounted an in wall tv box recessed and put the one connect box in it. Worked fine.

Fair call. I install these and getting the one connect head were it needs to go is a pain.

But it's not a phone charger...do you expect companies to provide hdmi cables with detachable connectors as well? My suggestion would be to spend 5 minutes researching and $5 extra for at least 1.5" conduit

Should have hired a AV Company to run the conduit and pre wire, we have known right away that wouldn’t have worked

I've got the same issue. I've chosen to cut a slit into the conduit, force the one-connect cable into the conduit and then run the conduit in my brick wall and plaster it. I know i won't be able to remove the cable in one piece, but at least i'll be able to switch to a different cable in the future.

Just pointing out.
The one connect has high voltage running though it and needs to be shielded before running it behind the wall.

We install back boxes behind the display for the one connect box to mount in.

Well a detachable connector would be a hard solution since that only cable carries high speed data such as video and audio compressed and they would run into so much issues with signal integrity believe me it's honestly impressive that they were able to do it in a single connector

What size conduit was installed? Likely 1 inch EMT. Every time we are asked to provide a conduit we use 1 1/2 to 2 inch PVC schedule 40 for electrical purposes, all depends if the inspector will allow it, some do some don’t.

What did you end up doing with the cable?

Before running conduit, I would make sure I would know its purpose so certainly you could run HDMI through the conduit and hide the main box of the Samsung TV behind a sheet rock, but that would’ve taken more planning. Another technique would be to make a junction box flush behind the TV so all the SAMSUNG equipment in contacts can go into this ventilated box I guess without being too harsh. I’m saying you should’ve laid out the entire project beforehand, but recognizing the challenges of having a home built, I could see how things can go sideways.

Do your planning. I made my conduit big enough.

they did that! now you only have to run that ONE cable instead of the 5 or 6 you would otherwize. also TVs dont belong above fireplaces. my neck hurts from just looking at it.
