I thought she would have picked Shapiro because we need PA, but having seen Walz’s debut in Philadelphia, it makes complete sense why she picked him. First, they have a genuinely great chemistry together — you can’t fake that. And they already look like a cohesive team. Second, Walz is dad-coded, likeable, and approachable. He is a Midwesterner + went to a state college (thus taking away the GOP’s argument of Dem elites) + labor unions love Walz + he was a high school teacher and a football coach — that makes him much more relatable for Americans than Trump and Vance. He’s Ted Lasso. You can’t hate his personality. You may not agree with Walz’s policies, but you would have a beer and great conversation with him. And I think that helps balance Kamala and conceptions that she is out-of-touch with Middle America because she grew up in California. I’m wondering whether 2024 may be a redux of the 1980 election — Reagan beat Carter, and people voted not necessarily on policies but based on vibes. You could say the same about 2008. The vibe that Harris / Walz exudes is joyful and optimistic
