It is often necessary to create a flattened version of a model, and this video teaches how to use the sheet metal functionality of SOLIDWORKS in order to create a flat pattern of the model. This video also shows how to export this pattern for use in other engineering applications such as AutoCAD and DraftSight. These files are exported as DWG and DXF files and are the standard file format for drafting software.

One thing i never saw and i am curious about it, is how to create a plane/sketch with custom X Y axis, sometimes i have weird planes that are off from the coordinate system of the part.

HOW DO I GO FROM FLATTENED METAL TO A CONE, I CANT START WITH THE CONE BECAUSE ALL MY MEASUREMENTS ARE FROM A FLATTENED DRAWING!!!!
