I changed my timing chain and thought I was smarter than the procedure and simply took off the old chain off and put a new one on. Engine seemed to run fine, but threw a P0016 for a cam position “not plausible.” Buy the kit, the cam holder that some people claim is too thick, is not. It just needs to have both cams in perfect position to slide into slots in camshaft end. I didn’t get the crankshaft holder to go in all the way, about 1/8” shy, but verified TDC of cylinder 1 with straw into spark plug hole, remove both camshaft bolts (careful to put 22mm wrench on camshalf to avoid rotation), replace with new (37 bucks each)…. Follow this video. I was happy to not have to remove the timing chain cover again, just the valve cover. Engine runs well and the P0016 code cleared on its own. Thanks for the video!

I’m wondering if this video was purposed because of me lol I didn’t have my new intake cam exciter set in the right spot easy fix car has been absolutely ripping since I reset the timing! Highly recommend the zzp stage 1 turbo cam. Also highly recommend taking your time when installing

Guys thank you for the thorough video. I did this job for my wife's cruze and didn't realize the press fit phaser. She does absolutely have both cam correlation codes active rn and shes been complaining oh my god i cant use my remote start when the check engine lights on please fix it. Now I get to be a cool husband and do it right.

For some people that doesn't know you didn't mention did the rotation of the crank could take two revolutions to get it in the right spot because the flip side of the cam will not fit but still it would look like it's top dead center

hi, do i have to set it like you did from 10:15 if i only want to set stock cam timings? i think i have the timings set wrong, sometimes the car doesn't want to start the first time, but starts fine the second time, it's after timing belt replacement.

Hello brother, my A14XER is smoking non stop the mechanic has changed the rings and the head has been serviced replacing all the seals and guides to no avail. Can swop the engines and use the Z14XER instead?

4:20 Question: when I insert my cam lock tool, the exhaust valves on cylinder #2 are slightly open. I have to twist the exhaust cam clockwise with some pressure to get the slot flat at the back end of the cam, since the cam lobes are opening the valves when I turn it.
Does this mean something is wrong? Also, I bought the cheapest timing tool set and the cam locking plate barely fits in the grooves. I had to tap it in with a small hammer, seems like it should be thinner. I recommend a quality set if you can afford it.

If I follow these steps upto the locking out of my camshafts, can I remove the large bolts and replace the sprockets to my camshaft actuator? They sell the chain kits with these and water pump, but I've seen none cover this step.

Not sure how long itll take for you to reply but im working on a 2016 trax LS right now, same engine as in the video. I have the timing tool, all that happened for me was that part of the exhaust side timing chain guide broke off and I have the front cover off right now to replace the guides, I got the cams locked up with the tool and while trying to ge the crank plug put in place I cant for the life of me to get it to bottom out, im concerned that might somehow mean that maybe the crank isnt properly lined up with the cams or that the chain could have skipped. My chain is off right now is it safe to wiggle the crank until the locking pin bottoms out while the chain is off. I was able to get the crank pin in and bottomed out first but then the cam locking tool didnt seem to want to fit and was a hair behind as if both of them wanted to be advanced maybe 1-2° equally. Just wanna make sure I dont end up screwing anything up that could require me to need to pull the front cover back off to replace the chain again :P

How do you adjust the slack on the actuator while under the locking tool? clock wise, counter clockwise or TDC ?

Would this cause p0016 and p0017 after changing the chain and guides

Question. Doing a head swap and a stage 1 swap. I timed my actuators with the tool but didn't check the crank. If i replace the head and all new components as long as #1 is TDC and locked with the pin can i just time it as shown here?

Do you have a part number for your holding tool? The one that came with my kit does not fit.
