The best thing about this channel is how y’all model critical thinking. Weighing risks vs benefits, waiting for more information, looking for conflicts of interest, and being mindful of the role emotions play in our decision making are all healthy behaviors. Maybe not everyone watching will start wearing sunscreen regularly—but I think a lot of people will start slowing down and asking questions before they react to information. And our society DESPERATELY needs that.

The only depression that I have around retinol is that I didn’t start using it 10y ago or 20 😂

I think fragrance-free skincare should be the norm and not the exception. Unfortunately, currently it’s the other way around. It serves no purpose to caring for the skin and is literally a known allergen. Why risk it? People who are sensitive can only use fragrance-free products, while those who are not sensitive to fragrance, can use both fragranced and fragrance-free—why isn't the industry realising this? Light a candle or spray your favourite scent around while doing your routine. I wish brands would pay more attention to this issue. It stops me from trying so many products. I have tried products with both ‘hypoallergenic fragrance’ and EOs like lavender oil and all make my face go red. I personally see no point in fragranced skincare

1) Unnamed psychiatrist we can't even guarantee has a degree
2) The psychiatrist said it can make depression WORSE, not that it CAUSES depression... this is the same for many other vitamins, products, and even foods you eat when you already have a chemical imbalance causing depression.
3) as mentioned topical and ingestion are very different things.

I’m a medical librarian. I love that y’all are evidence-based. Three cheers for evidence!

Story of my life! My friends have read so many negative things about sunscreen and retinol, they won't wear them! So much misinformation out there. Really hoping they come around and avoid premature aging and susceptibility to future derm issues.

Hey Doctors, I'm from Cairo, Egypt, been a fan for a while now, we rarely have any matching content as yours in Arabic, so just wanted to thank you so much for putting in the right, medical and scientific info for us out here, My whole understanding for my skin, my problems and routine changed 100% over the past month thanks to you, like I had some stuff that I thought it's not treatable and I have to live with it LOL! YOU changed that for me, Thank you once again and I love Dr. Maxfield's Tan

I love this! As a cosmetic chemist, I get frustrated easily by the amount of misinformation and panic that happens. Its actually very damaging because ingredients and products get “canceled” so easily and sometimes a lot of alternatives are worse.

I started tretinoin .025% a few months ago and I have a long history with depression, clearing up my skin has definitely improved my mood : )

You guys are so giggly and smiley that I always feel like there’s an inside joke we’re missing out on 😂 My favorite derm duo!

Indian over here- I used Accutane when I was 14. I insisted. It was a GAME CHANGER. I had to go on it for two periods of 6 months- and I swear to god I’m so glad I went on it. I was a nightmare to be around (but also super hormonal teenager so who knows) and my skin was so dry but I would do it a thousand times again. My skin was so horrendous and this was the only solution because my derm had tried everything until that. I had to be monitored via blood tests etc but honestly- I’m 31 now and my skin is pretty great for the most part .

as someone with depression, i can tell you it didn’t get worse with retinol 😂

My retinol is not ever going to make my depression worse than my *actual disorders* that I am medicated for. Keeping my retinol and I absolutely hate tik tok. Can't stand the blatant stupidity. My husband was on Accutane as a teen and it was required to see a psych. It cleared his acne completely.

I just want to thank you both for taking out time for us. Your videos are so informational. Personally, my acne-prone skin has improved immensely because of your advises. I really appreciate your efforts. Thank you. ❤️

When I stumbled on this channel I had so much skin and scalp issues.. in which interventions had been done with no success! Meanwhile, they gave product recommendations, reviewing ingredients, and for when and where to use it. I just can’t say how thankful I am 🥰

Love this, and look forward to seeing this type of video going forward. BTW, Accutane was a game changer for my son. When he was in high school his skin was so broken out and I could tell it was doing a number on his self esteem. Even with all of the side effects (dry lips, super dry skin, pealing etc.) he stayed with it. It was a miracle drug. Nothing else had worked. Since he has been an adult I have asked him if it was worth it. He does not bat an eye and said YES. He would do it again (he had to do it twice and was willing to do so). I agree, it saved him from depression rather than causing it. It was worth every penny this single mother had to scrape together to make it happen.

I started my skin care after watching your videos. Sunscreen and Retinol etc. My skin care routine has actually reduced my anxiety and depression. And my therapist has encouraged it.

I find your content entertaining and very informative. I also appreciate that both of you are very down to earth. You understand that, for some people, it is not possible to reapply sunscreen 5 times a day, and not everyone is very consistent. I also remember a video were Dr. Maxfield had some tan lines 👀👀, and we are just humans. Appreciate that I don't feel scolded every time I watch one of your videos.

i would love a video on accutane. i was on it a few years ago. the side effects were really brutal. my skin was so dry it shed like a snake. my lips bled constantly. and still it was totally totally worth it. it changed my life. it is such an incredible medication. i wish i could’ve had your advice while i was on it.
