After moving away in 2010 to spend time with the other half of my family, we moved to San Antonio, TX. Mind you, I was raised in Perry County in the 1970's, went to a tremendously successful small private school for Kindergarten and 1st grade (The Londonderry School), and have been nomadic for my entire life. The most important thing I have to say about Harrisburg, is, "there is no place like home!" After living in an extremely hot, humid climate, with no forests to speak of for miles and miles, Harrisburg and the surrounding area is more like a best-kept-secret of beauty, nature, and the arts like no other I have ever experienced. With the annual Arts Fest, and Kipona, you have a welcoming of the summer, and fall, respectively with each being held over Memorial and Labor Day holiday weekends. The food alone is worth traveling hundreds of miles to experience. Not to mention, I don't know if it still happens during the summer months, but when last I lived in the area, free jazz performances were held each Friday during the lunch hour, right around City Hall. And then you have all of the pristinely manicured golf-courses surrounding the city and its suburbs, along with the hundreds of state and local parks, like Little Buffalo, right outside of the New Bloomfield, Newport area (I lived on the other side of the "mountain", growing up) to Pinchot Park. Did I mention Ski Roundtop that provides excellent outdoor activities year round; from paintball in the spring, summer, and fall, to skiing twenty-minutes away from downtown Harrisburg.
My wife and I are leaving tomorrow afternoon, from here in San Antonio, driving the 1, 800+ miles back home to the beautiful Susquehanna Valley, and my beloved home of Harrisburg, PA. When I was younger, I was not proud to say where I was from, but these days, after living all along the East Coast, Washington State, and Texas, I can say that without a doubt Harrisburg is far more appealing than anywhere I have ever lived and cannot wait for it to welcome me back after a thirteen-year hiatus!

Tell me you've never been to Pennsylvania without telling me you've never been to Pennsylvania.

I know Harrisburg very well and yes it has its issues like most cities (not denying that) but referring to it as the worst place in the USA is QUITE a reach. Have you been to Chester, PA? Detroit? Gary, Indiana? St. Louis even? Parts of MD, VA and DC? smh

I feel this is a false description of Harrisburg. I have lived here for 30 years and now call this my home. It is a great place to raise kids and the cultural arts here is wonderful. There is so much to do and see here. It’s a small town with big experiences.. ijs

I'm from Harrisburg and I literally have never heard anyone call Harrisburg. Any of those nicknames that you named five seconds into your video and i'm already picking it apart with things that are not true and wrong

After watching this, i now realize the bost has some personal trauma to work through.
Harrisburg isn't great, but it is by far NOT the wrost in the USA. Far, far, from it. And knowing you could take a short drive from Harrisburg to worst places... Baltimore, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Reading, Camden... Just to provide evidence of that.

Came here from AZ for various reasons....spent 30+ yrs there, had to come here for work (UPMC) and now 2 yrs later I see WHY people do NOT move here. This place terrible unless you're just used to it and don't really know that there's anything else out there and you have no standards and you don't care much about blight and people shooting each other daily. DO NOT MOVE HERE. THere are TONS of other nice places to live. Its NOT worth it.

Honestly you have to read between the lines for a lot of this and don’t just stop at the numerical statistics. I have lived in Harrisburg since the 70s. Most of the crimes here are from people beefing with each other and if you mind your own business generally you will be safe.

I lived in Allentown PA and Harrisburg is really pathetic and depressing. The only place that’s worse is Reading PA.

On the rare occasions I still have to drive the PA Turnpike my blood always runs a bit cold passing Harrisburg. Even by the putrescent standards of the Rust Belt there is something about the place that diminishes the human spirit.
