Informing and interesting. Thank you !
Time:15:21 confused about “bush sr wanted to expand nato”. Adding new natomembers requires unanimous consent.? Was it different in 1990?

Also, so far, no mention of Soviet “troubles” in Afghanistan 1979-1989 contributing
To Gorbachev policies?

A lecture is by definition ( not a debate) seems very pro Russian to me not allowed to challenge the lecture you've been given. Ain't wasting one second listening unless it's a fair debate .

52 minutes, i won't be getting back... Where's the debate? Where's the exchange of opinions? Good or bad, true or false, this is just a book presentation that adds no value to the person watching.

@6m02s eventually gets going after all the excruciating introductions and backslapping that accompanies these academic talks ;)

A 2008 memo from u.s. ambassador to russia (current head of CIA) stated that russia feared nato would worsen the divisions within Ukraine, perhaps even cause a civil war, and would force russia to have to decide whether to intervene, “a decision russia does not want to have to make”. Three months later it was announced that Ukraine would join nato. Many top u.s. national security and state dept officials strongly opposed nato expansion, arguing that it would undo years work and success of ending the Cold War, making enemies of our friends who peacefully dissolved the USSR. Seems all too obvious but nato expansion as a vehicle of expanding u.s. influence and military power was far too enticing. At the same time, nato could not include Russia because Russia as a large country and military would inevitably compete with u.s. influence within the alliance.
The u.s. was entirely responsible for giving Russia Yeltsin. His election was bought and manipulated. A perfectly weak leader reliant on the Clinton admin.
