New David Platt Documentary Looks BAD…

Former congregants of Mclean Bible Church are releasing a documentary this October about David Platt and his practices that allegedly go against the constitution. They just put out a new teaser and I have some thoughts.

Remember at T4G when David Platt pretty much called every one white in the crowd a racist… and it went poorly leading Ligon Duncan to try to save face for the conference the next day. It was the when I decided Platt was traveling in a different direction, away from orthodoxy.

I was a 30 year member of McLean Bible Church. Some of us had serious issues and concerns with Platt coming to our church. We tried to sound the alarm to no avail. David lied and Dale Sutherland lied. David lied during the town hall meetings where they censored ALL the questions to Platt. No one could stand up and ask a question, you had to put it on a 3x5 card and submit it. I asked deep questions that were never answered. One question that did get asked was what was David's favorite movie. They thought David was not so bad. But no one did the homework. It was a hijacking.

Its actually amazing at how many pastors run their churches like multi-level marketing schemes.

Dale Sutherland holding a weapon in the video is from his time as an undercover detective in DC while at the same time was a pastor at MBC. Dale has several ministries. One is the undercover pastor. This photo is on his ministry website. Sir, the documentary is well done and stands on legal ground.

Am I hearing that a man was an elder for 25 years? For a number of reasons, no one should be an elder for 25 years, even non-consecively.

They asked for financial statements, but they kept putting them off.

I totally agree with your need for receipts. I am confident that there will be lots of receipts. The easy Libel lawsuit that would follow this documentary if it doesn't give the receipts is why I believe it will be credible. These guys seem to be quite knowledgeable and with business smarts. Looks like a secondary financial package to subvert the normal reporting processes to me. Obviously we will all wait to see, but I can't imagine spending money for a mere smear and libel film. I will bet it will be loaded up.

Regardless of any theological beliefs, the accounting raises both of my eyebrows. If there are financial shenanigans going on, this group is doing itself a disservice associating Platt with "CRT." Keep it simple. Keep it to the actionable issues, otherwise there's room for the accused to take control of the narrative and play the martyr.

In my opinion one of the worst things about Platt is his winey superficial intonations masquerading as passion. At the end of the day it is an outside rather than inside thing. God looks on the inside rather than the outside. This is the guy, who after being in ministry and leading by way of example of goodness, kindness, love, was so angry to the young child you looked to him for charity. Although it was a moment of reflection for him, it was at the end of years of a leadership example. What on earth type of example was he before that? An example of how to talk in a whiney voice? He then had the cheek to come back to the church and tell the church off, forgetting that if the church was guilty it was because of his bad example. I spotted this straight away as soon as I saw the clip of him 'preaching'. He reminds me of eric swallwel, tears on demand. The Apostle Paul always tied what the false teachers taught with their character. Even those who came as false workers of righteousness he tied it to their character and motives. If people would be more conscious of their own sin and be willing to see it in all its 'glory' through the eyes of Christ, they would be more willing to call it out in their brother and be able to more easily see it. Many can't see it because they refuse to have the forest moved out of their own

While I think large churches can benefit a community, I think whenever it bridges into a multi-campus or "MEGA Church" then things get really dangerous. I understand sometimes churches do things to save money by scaling their own church, but I'm starting to see more and more benefits to a limited size church. That being said, I am SBC and think Local Assocations and State Conventions are very valuable and important.

You need to watch the whole two part episodes as it lays it out really well. David lied and is guilty based on it and he preaches CRT. I was a big Platt fan but no more.
