The Black-White IQ Gap: Charles Murray VS James Flynn (2006 Debate)

What you’re about to listen to is a fascinating debate from 2006 between two leading scholars in intelligence research, Charles Murray and James Flynn. I recently found this in the deep dark corners of YouTube split up into 12 parts, as it had clearly been uploaded back when YouTube only allowed 10 minute uploads! So I’m sure many people haven’t heard this debate and having the whole thing in one place would make it more likely that more people will hear it. Of course, I want to stress that I don’t own the rights to this clip. I believe the event was sponsored by the American Enterpirse Institute, but I haven’t been able to find this recording anywhere else. I’ve cleaned up the audio and edited out some dead air. Unfortunately, there are some cuts in the original recording so you occasionally miss a few words. Enjoy.

These men are legends. Little did they know at the time, but they were having the last, great purely scientific conversation about this topic before the world went nuts. All of what they studied is not only true, but turned out to be the tip of the iceberg.

I was very surprised to see that this is from 2006, as Flynn sounds like he's speaking from 1936. Very old-timey sounding, & I really enjoyed listening to him speak, just from a purely aesthetic nature.

I heard that the reason that the U.S. Army put the IQ cutoff at a certain point, was that they found that below that mark, it cost the Army more to keep him than the value the recruit added to the army, not that the recruit couldn't do things and make a contribution.

Something people need to keep in mind, until the 1930s black population was heavily concentrated in the deep south which wasn't exactly know for having the best education standards.

I’ve administered Ravens in South Africa. Very low scores in people who are otherwise productive and noble. But NO FLynn Effect in South Africa even after 30 yrs of ‘democracy’. In fact it’s getting WORSE.
