In July 2023 it's still possible to play Youtube on a 500Mhz iMac using yt-dlp and MPlayer.
First video is a streaming 3gp file - the iMac barely breaks a sweat using less than 20% CPU, however the next video - h264 at 360P needs to be downloaded before playing and has the machine near 100% CPU throughout.
