Women who are educated about risk factors for breast cancer can take important steps to lower their risk. Talk to your doctor about your risk factors and when to begin getting clinical exams and mammograms. Know your body, know your breasts. Be knowledgeable of your family history. Make healthy lifestyle choices. Exercise and eat balanced diets with fresh fruits and vegetables.

The UNC Breast Cancer and Environment Research Program (BCERP) is a five-year initiative aimed at studying how obesity and other influences may affect susceptibility to an aggressive subtype of breast cancer, basal-like breast cancer.
