Sony BVM-HX310: The First LCD I've Reviewed That Can Rival OLED!

We review Sony's new BVM-HX310 professional mastering monitor, which is the replacement for the Japanese brand's now-discontinued X300 reference OLED monitor.

We found the Sony HX310 to be the first LCD display we've tested that can compete with OLED on picture quality, thanks to dual-layer LCD or light-modulating cell layer (LMCL) technology. List price is at least £30,000.

We understand that the Hisense U9 and the upcoming Apple Pro Display XDR 6K monitor will also be using dual-layer LCD technology, although not the exact same one found on the BVM-HX310.

Footages at 2:15 and 2:52 are blurry due to wide lens aperture used to capture dark detail.

Just stopping by to say thanks again for your LG C9 review. It pushed me over the edge to getting one. Absolutely amazing TV and gaming heaven. And the stand was included :)

You the man, Vince.

I believe this is what Eizo does on their flagship mastering monitor as well. I really hope this tech becomes more affordable some day...

I love this. I've been out of the business for a while, so it is wonderful to have someone like HDTVTest to walk me through the latest developments. I'm so impressed. Has to be the best television man on the net, and for added value, he is entertaining as well.

Your voice really needs to be an option on AI assistants. That would make everybody's day that much better. <3

The off angle viewing might be a dealbreaker for a large TV, but this technology just simply ideal for high end PC monitors... which this pretty much is... just need it to be affordable.

It'll be interesting to see if Dual Layed LCD or or MiniLED becomes the next popular trend in backlighting.

I remember watching CES 2019 where HiSense showed off "ULED" which I believe uses a similar tech. Would be interesting to see the two compared
