Recalls are still better than being quiet about a problem and ignoring it.

And people wonder why Honda/Toyota came in and swept the market in the late 80's and 90's! Quality of American cars were horrible and they showed cars could last forever with regular maintenance. I have owned 2 American cars but both literally fell apart on me and were used and everything else has been Japanese made cars. Loving them:)

GM didn't voluntarily recall the death switch.
They tried very hard to hide it.

what about doing it by the %, number of cars recall and the amount of cars the company sells

those ford at column shifters are still a fail drove a diesel f250 that you have to wiggle the shift to get in gear had expedition same thing

with the ignition thing you shouldnt have all that on your car keys anyways you're setting your own self up for failure.

Why is it purely by number of recalls? It seems like a top 5 list like this should be about IMPORTANCE of the recall.
For example, what about the Toyota recall a couple years ago where people couldn't control their gas pedal and the cars floored it out of control?

New cars should all go to push button start. Also, the Takata argument about it being a supplier can be made for many, many, many parts such as key ignitions, motor mounts, and suspension bolts as many auto manufacturers use the same suppliers.
