Whenever I don't want to get started on a project, I just set things up to do the project with the intention of walking away. If I still don't want to get started, I write down instructions on what needs to be done so an employee can do it for me. (I don't have any employees.) Then I hire myself to do it.

This notification was essentially the universe telling me "get up you little sh*t and do the assignment you've been procrastinating on for three months"

Me, ADHD, who always buries every task behind a mountain of other tasks:

Hmm, I need to sweep the kitchen floor, it's getting gross. Before that I have to take the garbages out so I don't make the floor dirty again right away, but I can't forget to toss the rotten stuff from the fridge first! (*Opens the fridge*) Why did I open this? Oh, I need to make a grocery list for tomorrow! (*makes grocery list, thinks of something to make for dinner while I was considering what ingredients I had left, then starts making dinner*)

3 hours later, on my way to bed:
Shoot, I was supposed to sweep the floors. But before that, I need to wipe the counters so none of it gets knocked onto the floor... (and the cycle continues, endlessly, for eternity)

Bro, you just really opened my eyes right now. When it's "output based", your mind does 2 things: the task seems bigger, and your satisfaction is tied to a hypothetical ideal result. This makes for a painful task.

But if it's "input based", not only does the task become manageable to attempt, but your satisfaction is tied to the fact that you put in effort; not the end result that may take much more time or effort than you think.

I'm sharing this with my friends, sir. Thank you so much for this. God bless!

Thomas Frank and his Ideas are “Productivity Game Changers” !
This idea of reframing tasks into smaller timed task ABSOLUTELY works for me.!
“Thanks A Lot Thomas !!”

I've been having a lot of difficult focusing in the past several months due to dissociation. Thank you for the encouragement!

THIS is one of those amazing informative shorts that I've seen on YouTube, more than 1 minute in terms of the content but so concise at the same time!

Procrastinating is one of the worst habits and sadly it's not easy to break.
Everyone who is trying, good luck! 💪🏻

What helps me most is to just start with a really small task. Like hitting play on my study music and either reading one sentence or writing one word, depending on what I'm working on. I always end up working for at least 15 minutes even on my worst unmedicated days, good days usually 40-50 minutes.

Thanks. I am back from completing the schoolwork I was procrastinating on, and I just thought thanking you would be the best I could do. My mom used to do this whenever me and my brother didn't want to start our homework. She would put a small timer, like, 10-15 minutes, on her phone, and we were encouraged to sit down for a seemingly small time after which we could be allowed to play. She would silently increase the timer until we would be done, and it worked wonders. I just can't emphasise how well it used to work, it seemed like magic to my 10 year old self. Of course, I'm still at school, but I'm a lot older than that, so she refuses to do it anymore, saying we're grown up enough to manage our own time. Not unexpected 🤭

But thanks to you, I remembered that old trick, and it helped me. Once again, thanks.

Thanks for this! I have a messy kitchen that seems extremely overwhelming. I've heard the "just set a timer" and it never works but something very simple and small just clicked. Start smaller and work up to setting a timer. Saying "just go put on a pot of coffee" to get myself in the kitchen helped a lot. I looked around and tried to find the least amount of work, so I cleaned off the table, then the dishes going in the dishwasher seemed to be a breeze. I thought to do just one more super small task so I just wiped the stove off. Scrubbing it seemed too big of a job. So I cleared the counter and it didn't seem so big anymore so I scrubbed the stove. Note to self, if you hate cleaning, don't get a gas stove with all the nooks and crannies.
