One of the best and honest videos I’ve seen on YouTube. I’m in the same boat, I’ve been running my box truck business in the same manner, from the top. I just put my box truck for sale and will be purchasing a semi truck applying the same method and principles.

I didn’t think about finding a driver through a staffing agency, thank you for enlightening me.

Thank you for your honesty regarding the true numbers. Most YouTubers gloss over the hard numbers, My biggest concern is your fuel mileage. I have been at this since 1996, and back then fuel was $0.80 per gallon, so we could afford big motors 525 -550 HP and our trucks were ungoverned. Back then my fuel mileage was about 5-6 MPG. Today with the high fuel cost you need to be at 7-8 MPG. You achieve this by having the truck governed to a reasonable speed, and being at not more than 455 - 475 HP. You local truck dealership can plug your truck ECM to a shop computer and they can configure the proper settings for optimum fuel efficiency. All the best.

Thanks very much I am retired from 1 carrier and working again for another company which I planning a second retirement. I have the funds to purchase a truck and and start my business. I plan on modeling my business in the same manner which you have done. Congratulation on becoming profitable! I have been trying to decide if I wanted to start box truck or semi your trustworthy detailed analytical presentation has been a tremendous help. Again many thanks.

I use trucker path myself as a company driver, and opted for it over the Rand McNally which i started off using.

You, Sir are an absolutely amazing and brilliant Gentleman. You have zero experience driving a truck, however, you are an analytical manager who has used intelligence to solve unknown problems. You are highly inspiring and have helped me realize that I must push past my fears, take calculated risks and then take a step towards success.

The 8% you’re paying your dispatcher is reasonable!! You’re doing great, why do the dispatching when you can find one and establish a great relationship with them. You already have other tasks on your plate.

Ignore the critics!

Glad you are making a profit, however I feel you should be making closer to $4/mi on all your miles in those 2 weeks. If a driver stays out at least 2 weeks, you should make good money, but the ones who want to be home every week, those trucks won't make much money based on my experience. I personally have owned trucks since 2013 as a business owner and do not have a CDL. I lease my trucks to the trucking company in which I work for and I dispatch my own truck. I pay 9%, 53' Dry Van Trailer Rental cost, IFTA, ELD, Cargo Insurance & Physical Insurance for Trailer.

As for routing the driver, I personally do not advise my driver on what to take because you have to think about no truck routes and low bridges and if you route your driver incorrectly, you can put him in a lot of trouble which could come as a huge liability to you. Fuel is eating up $0.71 - $0.86/mile if your truck gets 5 - 6 miles to the gallon.

Do you know what your truck is getting MPG? Also what is the weight of the loads in which you are taking? Also, this is a truck you bought from the dealership right? Did they give you virgin tires for your drive tires or did they put recaps on the drives? If its recaps, then get ready to spend a lot of money on those drive tires as you get into April and May and things start to heat up outside. That will be $300 - 400 per tire times 8 = $2400 - $3200 . Most dealerships generally put on recap tires on the drives just as an FYI.
