IMO this is the closest match up you have had . So close to call I don't want to pick, love both so much . Can't cop out so I have to pick ...going with Skynyrd by the smallest amount possible.

I've lived with Second Helping a lot longer than Tres Hombres. An yes, I am tired of Sweet Home Alabama, But I really still dig the rest of the album. Needle/Spoon, Curtis Loew, MCA, I Need You... Going with Skynyrd on this one.

ZZ Top LP is very good but, it can't compete with Second Helping; The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Needle and the Spoon, and my personal fav, I Need You, how do you compete with that? As ZZ Top found out, you can't!

Coincidence. Just this week, I dug out my SECOND HELPING remastered cd to play to and from work. Blasting, was trucking pretty quick down the road, when I saw a cop car hidden in view, but he didn't chase me. I was cranking WORKING FOR THE MCA! Bought his record when I was about 15, back in 1979 or 80.

A toss-up for me. Love both bands equally. Gibbons, Rossington, Collins King- all very righteous guitarists. Great music that I grew up with(along with millions of loyal fans). My brother actually had tickets to the Skynyrd show that he never got to see because of the plane crash. He was gonna see them in Phoenix that year. Hey Pete, how about a classic album war featuring Bob Seger, one of my all-time favorite singers, or maybe a top ten list. I'm pretty sure that you like him as well. How about it?

Its Skynyrd for me..them and Uriah Heep(Byron era)..my two fav bands..but I love ZZ

You made the correct call, IMHO. The early ZZ Top albums are brilliant.

Skynyrd for me. On the balance ZZTop is a great band. Like Rush, for a three piece they get a ton of music out of the ensemble. They are brilliant at what they do. The songs on Tres Hombres are great. The performances are great. The thing I like about Skynyrd is the richness in the sound due to the larger number of musicians participating in the recording and live performances. These extra bits, when inserted by people who know their instruments and play their roles well, crank up the quality when compositions are done right. If you take away Powell, King and Collins to scale the economies in the band for comparison, ZZTop wins. But when I consider what these three brought to the Guitar/Bass/Drums/Vocals core of Skynyrd, it tips the scales in Skynyrd's favor. I love the additional colors and textures Powell, King and Collings brought to Skynyrd's sound in that recording. All of these songs, even those overplayed, are brilliantly executed. I love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. For my tastes, it's gotta be Skynyrd.

Yea both are fantastic albums, but Billy Powell on the ivory seals it for me though just an added dimension. If it were Street Survivors though, untouchable...
