AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU Review & Benchmarks: Strong Recommendation

We benchmarked & reviewed AMD's new R5 3600 Ryzen CPU to test performance in games, Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Blender, compression, & more.

NEW RYZEN CPU LISTINGS:

In this review of AMD's new Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, we look at the remainder of Intel's i5 lineup -- primarily composed of the i5-9600K -- and run generational benchmarks versus AMD's older R5 2600/2600X and R5 1600 CPUs. All modern CPUs on the chart also have overclock numbers accompanying them. Memory was 3200MHz CL14 with manually configured secondary and tertiary timings for all bench platforms, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. 3200MHz is the highest frequency that works on everything we benchmarked in this list, allowing us to control a variable while still using a reasonable memory speed. We'll do separate benchmarking on memory scaling. In the meantime, this benchmark tests the AMD R5 3600 for power consumption, Blender performance, Premiere, Photoshop, 7-Zip, V-Ray, GCC code compiling, and more, alongside gaming benchmarks versus Intel. Our reviews of the AMD R9 3900X, R7 3700X, AMD RX 5700 XT, and AMD RX 5700 are forthcoming or have already been published, depending on when you check this video. Be sure to check back regularly to catch all of the reviews -- they're mostly done! AMD vs. Intel 2019 has officially started.

Snowflake knocking off the i5 has got to be the highlight of the video. Huge thanks to the GN Team for making the benches possible!

Watching GN videos has basically ruined many of the big name websites I used to visit for launch day reviews. Steve, your attention to detail, obsession with reducing margin of error, and the accuracy of GN's data is nothing short of impressive. Combined with GN's production quality, you and your team are truly reshaping what readers/watchers expect from tech journalists for the better. Keep up the good work!

When everybody else is talking about flagships, your choice of posting this for the first review video of the Ryzen2 platform is just mind-blowing. Keep up the good work!

AMD time then. Sorry intel, i loved your i5 2500k, but you don't seem to care enough for your loyal customers. I guess its time to check out the red team for the first time.

THE SINGLE most important factor in a CPU is value for me. Who cares about performance when there's only a ~5% difference?

I really like the 2023 re-visit of Ryzen 5 3600 that now beats out the i5 9600K in almost every game, and in some newer games that make use of 12 threads difference is up to 33% in favour of Ryzen 5.

Massive flood of Zen2 reviews. It would be heresy to NOT click on Steve "Tech Jesus" Burke first.

Others: Let's review the higher end CPUs first since people are excited about Ryzen's top of the line up
Steve: Let's review the midrange CPU first that more people will likely end up with for that sweet price to performance ratio

Thanks for including this. Fast compile times are so important to not go mad.

AMD 3rd Gen Ryzen Boost Clock Investigation:

an Asrock AB350M Pro4 card at 70 euros, will give better performance on cinebench R20 compare to a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme, the card to 800 euros.

Love my Ryzen 3600. Yeah late to the game, but it was $159 at Microcenter.

The floating Point Units and larger L3 Cache on Ryzen 3000 really speed up productivity
