Did you perhaps forget the fact that the 3600 is an AM4 CPU? Pairing that 3070 with a 5700x3d or 5600x3d would be a way better choice if youre already on AM4 to begin with.

CPU is really important in particular if you like to play 4X games (simulations/turn speed) and MMOs.

This saves costs and will also provide a significant bump in performance. I get the appeal of having the upgradability, but I don't see the need here.

That CPU is still sufficient to support a 4090 and it means this person could get themselves a nicer GPU with the next generation coming up. Not to mention that the 3d vcache is Poggers. Quite possibly Pogchamp, even.

I'm pretty sure you could get away with AM4 until AM6.

Listen to me guys:

If games you are playing and enjoying are hitting your desired FPS; (60 120-240) on current build and you enjoy gaming, there is no need to upgrade.

When your expirience becomes unenjoyable, you cant hit above 60 in ur AAA, u cant hit 120-240 in your favourite esport THEN is the time to look at the new gear.

I did this for Valheim (upgraded ram and cpu) and for Fortnite(upgraded gpu) because those are only 2 games I'm playing and my old pc was struggling.

Games in which I didn't care about performance like RDR2, Witcher, COD campaigns ran well enough to be enjoyable even on old PC.

I had a ryzen 3600x, and recently bought a 4070ti super. There were games where I was dissapointed about the fps and since I game on 1440p I thought the videocard was a bit dissapointing. I changed my 3600x for a 5700X3D and man that was a massive improvement eventhough I am on 1440p
ASA was between 50-90fps now 120-140fps
Rise of the RombRaider was 90fps now 140 fps
RDR2 no big change, just slightly more stable fps at around 90-100fps
All survival games had a nearly 50% increase in fps.
MMO's even to more then 2x fps
All games were more stable in fps if not way more fps
SO I was CPU bottlenecked appearently.
Just only 1 exception. 7 days to die, no improvement and still get a headache after playing it for longer period of time. Even at around 120fps

I would vote with going with a 5700x3d if they already have an AM4 platform. You save so much compared to having to buy CPU, MB and RAM. Wait until you upgrade your GPU with something more than 8gb and build your new PC around that new card.

Real. I had a Ryzen 3 3200g paired with GTX 1070, Valorant was lagging; I could not even multitask to have consistent 144fps. Then switched to a Ryzen 5 5500gt with the same GTX 1070, Valorant was running consistently 144fps, I could stream and have some apps running in the background. Good decision made 🎉
