MARLINSPIKE HITCH | How to make a Marlinspike hitch to hang your gear in the bush

We place a lot of trust in our knots and as one of the most reliable knots, a Marlinspike hitch can save you a lot of time and backache. In this video I share how to make a Marlinspike hitch and how you can use it in different ways. The benefit of making a Marlinspike hitch is that it's a very secure knot that you can trust to hang your gear, build a ladder and much more, all while still being easy to undo. Once you've practiced making a Marlinspike hitch a few times, it will be one of your favourite knots, a cool party trick and something you readily do at combat speed.

You certainly can create a lot of tension with that marlin spike hitch Clarice!
Thank you for another very relevant and educational video on something so many of us lack even a little knowledge on, but so important in the bush.
💜👍

Hello, I hope you are having a wonderful weekend so far. I have seen a lot of different folks talk about hanging your gear or food off the ground. Yup it all makes perfect sense. However what still throws me off is why put a sharp pointed end on one side? Part of having a fun camping experience or if you are fleeing a bad event. Is to do everything you can to prevent getting hurt or injureing yourself. It would seem the fewer things around you that could possibly harm you (like bumping into or falling against/on a very sharp pointed stick) would be a bad thing to happen. Can you explain the reason why you do sharpen one end? It also seems to me what would be better is to make the stick long enough to cut out two notches close to the end where the strap to your bag or gear can easily fit into to prevent the gear or bag from unexpectedly falling off? Just wondering, other than that thank you for another great video. Wish I knew a way to share photos with you, I am in the process of restoring/outfitting a 1985 GMC Suburban and one of my considerations is the final paint. I based my idea on watching a lot of conceal vehicles videos including yours. I think I have a pretty cool idea. At least in my own head hahaha

you don't necessarily need to use a marline spike with a marline spike hitch.. A toggle or random stick is just fine too.

Very good clarise.
Not all rope work are knots, there are bends, hitches and splices.

Many types of marlin spike usual come with rigging set or on utility knife. Sailors knife captain currey make rhese, bosuns mate, deck handand captain all slightly different but all have a marlin spike.
