Should You Buy the Microsoft Surface Pro 8?

The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 might very well be the first Surface Pro that many might consider purchasing. It's improved in many ways and comes with their latest operating system, Windows 11.

Surface devices have always embodied the company's vision for how they feel their operating system should be deployed, so you'll get a bloatware-free experience. If it doesn't come with the operating system, it's not installed, which is a nice change of pace from so many designs from other makers like Dell, Lenovo, and HP, for starters.

Stephen is an original Microsoft Surface Pro owner. But for him, the device didn't really catch fire with him. Now, 8 revisions later, the latest Surface Pro is at a point where it brings a smile to his face. With much-increased performance, a beautiful 120 Hz display, and improved battery life, he beat it up really well and came back with his real-world thoughts on how this latest Surface device met his daily driver needs.

While there's a lot to love about this latest Surface Pro 8, including the larger display, and a phenomenal typing experience on the improved keyboard, there are some things that might hold you back.

I upgraded from the pro 4 to the pro 8. I'm really enjoying it. My home set us is based around the form factor of the surface pro design.

The pc is a major upgrade from where I'm coming from. I'm a fan of it.

I bought the Surf Pro 8, but not your Configuration. I got the Entry Level machine with the $130 Keyboard/Typecover. Microsoft 365 works really good with Windows 11.

You mentioned approx 20%ish battery life left after 1.5 hour zoom call. Did you then still had 2x windows opened and 40 odd tabs opened running in the background? .. If so, I think that's pretty decent with all that background work.

Steven, I am curious about the battery life in sleep mode. Could you please try to put it in sleep mode and see how much battery has been drained in the next 8 hrs or so?

I've been getting overheating issues sadly. Only on hot days when I don't have air conditioning. The dock overheats too. Lose monitors and printer. And yeah, phone support takes days.
Other than it being virtually unusable in hot conditions, its really very good.

The Surface models are known for screen flickering after a few months, Overheating issues and microsoft support being shocking when it comes to customer service. Even giving some customers refirbished surface pros instead of new ones. Id really love to get one of these but the last few surfaces have been plagued with problems and i just cant trust microsoft service for support anymore.

I'm considering to get SP8 i5 8GB RAM & 256GB SSD for my moderate usage (sometime I use lightroom and photoshop) . I already have notebook i7 with 16 GB RAM for my daily office works and will use the SP8 as the companion of this notebook . Is i5 with 8RAM good decision for the long run? thanks

The keyboard drives me crazy, the trackpad is bad, and i couldn't use it on my lap without the Surface sliding over and fall, then the keyboard dislodged from the Surface when I tried to grab hold of it. So it's a not so good laptop (which you can only use on a stable surface) and very bad tablet since Windows itself isn't a very good tablet OS.

Can you test cover the infrared led with a camera cover and see what happen?
I have a surface pro and I decided to cover the infrared camera, with a camera cover, but for that I cover too the infrared led. Less 1 minute with the infrared led covered and turned on and the infrared led burned the camera cover!!! The infrared led made a hole in the camera cover! After that I put another plastic thing in front of infrared led, to see if the infrared led make the same with another things and it did, the infrared led burned it too.
I don't know if this happens only with my surface or with all, but it is very serious, because this is dangerous for our eyes, skin - our health!
I only have this surface pro, so I can't test this fact in another surface pro. But you, you have a surface for tests and can test and show this situation to the world, you can alert this situation for all people.

P.S. You can test this using Windows Hello. Cover the infrared led and after try use Windows Hello. Windows Hello will not work because it can't find you, but it will try to find you and make the infrared led stay on during a while and it is at that moment that starts burn the cover or plastic or any other things.

1. sales multiple times a year (back friday, x-mas, new years, presidents day, st. patricks day, easter, memorial day, back to school, labor day).
2. bundle sales (with keyboard, pen, or keyboard and pen).
3. MS has sales (one is going on right now on their website);
4. Best Buy/Amazon sell used-excellent conditions devices. My $1, 600 SP8 (i7, 16 ram, 256 ssd) cost $1, 099.
5. Best Buy/Amazon sell used-excellent condition accessories. My keyboard was $77 and pen was $65.

Don't forget that this thing can run Android now .It combine the most strongest and supportive system all together with mature touch interface experience. The ipad thing goes too far from embarrassed .
