For those who don't know, scientists found "nodules" of electrically charged metals that split water into its components, oxygen and hydrogen. This process is called electrolysis, and that is how dark oxygen is formed.

No scientist anywhere thinks all oxygen is made solely by photosynthesis. We have known this for a long while now.

This makes perfect sense honestly. Water is just hydrogen and oxygen, and applying an electrical current to water splits the two in a process called electrolysis. Now all we need to do is find the source of this electrical current and we could figure out what is making this occur. This could help us narrow down our search for extraterrestrial life forms.

It’s not dark at all, it’s normal o2. It’s just being created through having water being separated through a natural form hydro electrolysis. Where it’s split into its basic building blocks, hydrogen and oxygen. Thats why the oxygen is forming. What the fascinating part is is that this natural form of electrolysis is being caused by naturally forming “batteries”. They really only function the way they do at the level they are at so it’s hard to analyze them without disrupting the process but it’s still really interesting!
